Re: The athletics/running thread
I was so far back in the pens it took half an hour to cross the start line. I was then caught up in so much running traffic it was impossible to get any pace. So I settled in and just looked to get under 2 hours and paced one of the girls who hadn't run a half before.

For the sake of 3 seconds?? Actually, I can do quite a bit in 3 seconds. Sometimes twice.Harry Genshaw wrote:Nice one Bruce and GtE. BP - you're dead to me too now!
How did it feel Enfield? Running at a much slower pace than you're capable of, was it comfortable? Any tweaks or owt? We're in Wales at the moment and set off for Newborough Warren today only to find out, when we were halfway there, the beach was closed due to the Sand man triathlon. Bloody triathletes

Nice one. Can't even dream about running that far yet. The equivalent of 4 and a bit parkruns.Gary the Enfield wrote:Finished GNR in 1:56 (unofficial)

White Wanderers shorts, dear boy. They're allowed, especially when it's still dark.

Was dropping the eldest off at Morrisons
I hope you were almost finished at 7?
Though, I shouldn't mock, I was out dodging the slugs and snails at 930 last night

6:56 I finished, it says here. Finished at the back of Morri's. Glad to learn you're back on it.
Let me know when you're fit for tackling Hardy Mill.

Re: The athletics/running thread
You know that two weeks ago I set a new PB? Well, this morning I've just shaved a further 27 seconds off of it.
There's a lot to be said for this sobriety business. I'm as miserable as feck but I'm running faster.

That's a HUGE amount to slice off a 5k Bruce. Well done sir.
My full on weekend was, as anticipated, tiring to say the least.
1500 metres in the pool on Friday was the warm up to the main event ot the tri relays on Saturday morning.
Basically teams of 3 compete against each other for the fastest time.
Each team member takes it in turns to swim, bike and then run around Dorney Lake (the Olympic Rowing Venue.
I did my 400m swim in 9:56, Cycle (15k) in 29:29 and my run in 23:28 all including transitions. Happy with everything apart from my run. My left knee just doesn't like pace at the moment.
Sunday I had a 10k run near home. I decided I would pace my (new to running) missus around the course. Disaster nearly struck on the downhill start as I couldn't run without shooting pains across my knee. I had to ease right off until I got to the bottom of the hill and on the flat. After that It was largely fine and I managed to improve my wife's time by over 3 minutes on her previous (and only other) 10k.
So (mostly) a good weekend all round but I need to get my knee looked at again.
