is that different to a nightsack?
so - that contains your map, picnic, flask of coffee, emergency chocolate and flares, and camera??
(also - I'd pegged as you as a bit older than that!)
I generally have my camera slung round my neck... (and bash it whenever I bend down to pick summat up!)

Re: the Photo thread
That's a photo I trawled off the tinterweb: it is not me - I am considerably older than that. Indeed I don't think I was ever that young.
And yes, it contains drinkies in expandable side pockets, map, waterproof jacket/fleece, whistle, torch, emergency silver sheet thingy, fud (inc Mars™ bar), hat, gloves, camera.

Re: the Photo thread
Let me tell you a little photography story....
I have mentioned on here previously that Mrs C and I became foster carers in August 2011. Since then we have had three young lads staying with us, two short term and this third longer term. The first lad was into his skate boards, scooters and computer games, much like many 14yr olds. He had never held a camera in his life. One night I took him out to Salford Quays and let him use my spare camera body, a Nikon D2X, which was nearly as big as him. He was very impressed that i would trust him with a camera like this.
The very first image he took was a stone cold winner (I'll try and find it later and add it here) and when he left our care I went to Jessops and had it enlarged for his bedroom wall.
Since then we have become aware via Facebook that he has taken up photography in a big way.
Last night our current young man was at an award ceremony getting a gong from our local authority for his achievements over the last year and as we walked in we were very surprised to find lots of very large images mounted around the room of skateboarders and scooterists(?) and there was our young man who had been invited to be the official photographer for the event!
How good is that? I'm so proud I think I might pop!
Edit to add:

Re: the Photo thread
I've just spent 10 minutes looking at that, clapton. The 'lad' has a fine eye for detail and the ability to force the viewer to examine the image rather than just take it in in its entirety.
thebish: My apologies for drifting from the subject in my previous post. I should have made it clear that I was commenting on two different aspects of the art. As to the subject of the link well, like you, I don't understand why anyone would bother; but that was more or less the point.

Good Lord! Salford Quays have changed a bit since I was there! They used to be like:

Re: the Photo thread
Don't know what date the pic was Monty, but the red ship in the foreground is a Manchester Liners (Furness Withy) container ship so it must be pre-1988 because they packed up then and were taken over by OCL.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Good Lord! I think it said 1971, Tango, which was eight years after I emigrated. I see on wiki that Furness Withy bought Manchester Liners in 1970 having established Overseas Containers Limited the year before. So I would say you were absolutely right Odd for a chap your ageTANGODANCER wrote:Don't know what date the pic was Monty, but the red ship in the foreground is a Manchester Liners (Furness Withy) container ship so it must be pre-1988 because they packed up then and were taken over by OCL.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Good Lord! From around the mid sixties I worked in the shipping container trade in Liverpool. The owner knew a guy who ran the container repair interests of Manchester Liners and we did their repairs and visited their offices a couple of times. There were problems with dock strikes in Liverpool in later years and eventually Liners pulled out and started shipping out of Felixstowe. My boss actually moved to Halifax Nova Scotia and opened a container company there that's still operating, now run by his daughter. The Liverpool branch is still going too, run by one of his sons.I think it said 1971, Tango, which was eight years after I emigrated. Well for a start-off they probably weren't Salford Quays when you were last there, I suspect plain old "docks".Montreal Wanderer wrote:Good Lord! Salford Quays have changed a bit since I was there!

Re: the Photo thread
You are quite correct, Worthy, except I think we called them the "Manchester Docks" (after all it wasn't the Salford ship canal). I only used the term because it appeared to be the current one, though I had never heard the term until this thread.Worthy4England wrote:Well for a start-off they probably weren't Salford Quays when you were last there, I suspect plain old "docks".Montreal Wanderer wrote:Good Lord!
