Blow has always been cannabis as far as I know. Cocaine was something quite exotic and well beyond my social circle when I was a lad. It might also be called blow, I don't know. I'll ask David Cameron or Boris Johnson, it's more their end of the market than mine.

The Italian word for the @ symbol translates as 'snail' into English.

This'll explain it. A definition from the freedictionary.com

7. (Law / Recreational Drugs)
a. Brit a slang name for cannabis [2]
b. US a slang name for cocaine See also blow away, blow in, blow into, blow off, blow on, blow out, blow over, blow through, blow up
[Old English blāwan, related to Old Norse blǣr gust of wind, Old High German blāen, Latin flāre]

It's a Brit/Yank dichotomy

It can be called an ampersat, which mind confuse more than diffuse. It can also be called an apetail. Or an at symbol.

91% of pickpockets on the Delhi metro are women.

Over half the butchers in Finland are women. In the UK, there are only three women butchers.

(not including Pat from EastEnders)

Wow, really, three?
Do you know who they are? Are they artisan butchers (like my farmer neighbour butcher, who grows, slaughters and butcher's his own)?

It was in something I read a while back - the woman butcher being interviewed had a degree in theology bizarrely. I'll try and dig the article out.

Ah - found it.

Fascinating article, thanks for the link. I hope by the time my daughter is old enough to look for work being female won't be seen as a barrier to any career she wants.

Here is one I found very hard to believe until I checked.

The 10th President of the United States, John Tyler (born in 1790) still has two living grandchildren.

Just to put that into perspective, Barack Obama is the 44th President.

Potatoes were the first vegetable grown in space, when they were grown on the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1995.

Grew vegetables! In space! How come all the soil didn't float about and get in the astronaut's hair?

I read a fascinating article way back before the internet existed about the Mercury astronauts and some of the problems they faced. One of them, Gordon Cooper (if I remember right), had a terrible time because the bag that collected his pee sprung a leak and he was by the end of his mission virtually swimming in a sea of piss droplets. It got so bad he had to lower his helmet visor so as not to keep breathing them in.
