On the odd and rare occasions I visit Bolton I liked having my breakfast in the shop on the same street as the co-op bank bear the new market hall. I think it's closed down now![]()
Ciao Napoli is still going though
I wouldn't eat again in Ciao Napoli if they paid me, the bent feckers.
On thread. I'd love to live in a small French village with markets with plenty of fresh local. Alternatively, spend part of the year travelling around this country, or Europe on a canal boat.
Take your canal boat here BP. You'd love it. Every time we stay in Northern France I try to get to this place at least for one day.

Was just saying, it looks nice but I've highlighted the bit that would put me off, or is no one else allowed an opinion?Gary the Enfield wrote:I was responding to BP's requirement for a French Market Town with Canal Boat access.

Yes, but it is not really French - it is Breton - the area (Armorica) belonged to us before the Romans came and was reacquired under Willie the Conq. They even teach Breton in the schools. The parallels to Wales are somewhat striking....Hoboh wrote:Was just saying, it looks nice but I've highlighted the bit that would put me off, or is no one else allowed an opinion?Gary the Enfield wrote:I was responding to BP's requirement for a French Market Town with Canal Boat access.

If I had the money, it'd have to be New York for me, absolutely love the place.
Also my best mate lives in an amazing place called Chatham in New Jersey, was voted the 8th most desireable place to live in the USA. Its a proper white picket fence place, but its only downside is that it only has 2 bars in the town centre. Went one christmas and everyone had to stay indoors as a bear had decided to have a walk through the town centre. Plus its only a 20min train ride to Manhatten.
The other place would be Playa Den Bossa on Ibiza, but not sure about winter time there, maybe a bit too quiet.

Re: Where would you emigrate to
Strangely enough i was having an 'argument' in a pub about this just the other day - slightly different take mind. I was saying how weird it is that out of France/Brittany England/Cornwall,Manx,Wales Scotland/Galloway,Highland Gaels it's only in Scotland where the local Celts haven't risen up and demanded their linguistic rights. Strange that.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Yes, but it is not really French - it is Breton - the area (Armorica) belonged to us before the Romans came and was reacquired under Willie the Conq. Re: Where would you emigrate to
I've been there a few times myself, absolutely hate San An and luckily havent stayed there, full of knobheads and them having to bleach the streets each night, its a shithole. Playa Den Bossa has just the right mix of being busy and relaxed. Can't fault the place at all, cracking beach, great bars/restaurants and really clean and friendly without being over the top.Hoboh wrote:wigan white wrote:If I had the money, it'd have to be New York for me, absolutely love the place.

Re: Where would you emigrate to
Had my 30th in there, and they got me up singing (rather badly) with the owner and his band. Me and the ex ended up staying in there drinking with the owner and his missus until 6.30am, we didnt pay for a drink from about 1am, what I remember of it was ace.Hoboh wrote:Had many a merry night in the beer garden and finished off very very late in Murpheys with a live bandwigan white wrote:I've been there a few times myself, absolutely hate San An and luckily havent stayed there, full of knobheads and them having to bleach the streets each night, its a shithole. Is this a language they speak? If so (and it largely isn't) is anyone stopping them?

Re: Where would you emigrate to
Without getting in on either side of this dispute, Prufrock my chess friend, linguistic rights are a little more than that. The right to be heard in court in your own mother tongue, the right to deal with the tax people in your own language, etc. These rights should exist where numbers justify it.Prufrock wrote:Linguistic rights? I have no idea about the incidence of Cornish speakers in a particular area, e.g. Cornwall, though I doubt numbers justify it.Prufrock wrote:Like Cornish?

to be fair - you DID ask wtf "linguistic rights" means - to which Monty gave the right answer...
Re: Where would you emigrate to
I've stayed out of this one as I just couldn't make up my mind. Sri Lanka for the people and the fact my pension will allow me to live like a King, The Pyrenees for the lifestyle, diet and sunshine? Seeing as Not Mrs Bob's family have a place in the Eastern Algarve and she wants us to keep it in the family, it'll probably be there........and with luck, in not too many years from now.
