But i'm 22 now and played about 5 rounds since i was a member at Davyhulme.
So that means you are mature now and a better player. 12 handicap maybe?

Unfortunately, mwciec is unable to play. As a result, or unless one of us is in a position to get Blurred across from, I think, Ellesmere Port way, then he'll be unable to partake also. :(

Shame for both. Unfortunately, I don't drive these days. Hope someone can help. Anyone else fancy joining in. Almost closing time?

I really hoped I would be able to squeeze it in, but I can't. Blurred lives in Sefton, by the way.

I could take Blurred back to Sefton, but someone else would have to offer a lift from there.

Ahh yes, the Smithdown Road conversation and whatnot. Well, let me see what tee times I get but it's easy for me to scoot down The Lancs.

Can I note that it's Sefton Park, which is in South Liverpool, as opposed to Sefton. Any lifts will graciously be accepted, however I wouldn't like people putting themselves stupidly out of their way on my account.

that was ace, i just hit 50 balls at the local driving range, 3 wood, 5&7 irons.
turns out i can thud the ball 230 yards with the 3wood - but it goes too high, so next time i'm gonna take the driver and leave the 3 wood behind for this tournament.

i can't wait now, i flippin loved that :D

I went to the range last night and felt quite inferior. My "woods" are MacGregor of the old school, although they have metal heads. (makes "woods" sound a daft term now). All around me people were lashing those poor little white balls with these huge great-headed whacking sticks. Have drivers become status symbols now like cars: bigger the club, bigger the man? Made me feel like some sort of alien.

Incidentally, I went into a sports store in Crompton Place,Bolton, on Saturday. They had a sale on: decent looking irons for £4.99 each and those "Cant-miss drivers for £7.99. Amazing. Full matched set of irons 3 to wedge, £59-99.

Stay well away. You're better off with your older but better-made clubs than them.

hmm drivers - to a point they kinda have - 460cc is he biggest legal driver you are allowed. There are plenty of people who just want the biggest and flashest one they get - the vogue at the moment is the Taylor made R7 425 or R7 Quad. These have moveable weights to allow you to shape you shots differently. Not sure I agree with this, takes some of the skill out of the game.

The dunlop stuff at Sports World is ok, I'd suggest spending a little bit more an going to JJB you can pick up Maxfli and Wilson metal woods for about £25.

Just picked up a hybrid 2 iron myself, tried it out in the shop and they showed my lots of stuff on a computer screen - damn those salesmen and their bright graphics and flashing lights!!!

Oh, I wasnt looking to buy Mummy, just thought they were good value for beginning golfers.. I'm quite happy with my MacGregor woods and Spalding Pro-Flight Gold irons. Bit battered now (like their owner :? ) Also carry a "Styx" 1 iron and my old Fazer putter. I'm comfortable with them all and not impressed by glitz. "Bad workman always blames his tools" etc.

Hey, I've got a number two wood you can use if you get there. Decent club and a tad easier to use than a driver. Can't give it you as I use it sometimes off the fairway, but you're welcome to borrow it for the day.

Ta muchly for the offer - I've no aversion to woods, but just don't get the practise time in. If I could get down the range on a semi-regular basis then I'd invest in a driver or a decent wood and get some practice with it, but as it is I don't, and so it's irons all the way. Fortunately my 3 iron goes far enough off the tee (when I connect with it) for it not to be too much of a problem.

You taking notes for handicaps here Commie?

One hits a 3 wood 230 yds but high, one is hitting a three iron good distances off the tee. Hmmmmm.
