Airport beers are a must, whatever the hour. Looks like Cyprus in August for my 40th, should be fun.

Haa. Nope * neither am I a nervous flier. I used to fly e/w at least once fortnight for years and years. I get more nervous at the airport surrounded by people who fly once (e/w) a year and aare clueless in the environment.

Just none too keen on clambering over people in a cattle pen and then being in a tiny, piss-ridden cubby whole constantly fearing the door opening on me mid-slash. ... & 6am IS to early for beer. Listen to your dad !

Did it once, partly to see what the fuss was about, and partly to punish the Dorris who'd got absolutely leathered the night before by making her watch me drink beer.

Backfired as I was asleep by lunchtime. Balls to that.

And, if the plane does happen to get in trouble, I'd like to have my wits about me!

If the plane gets in trouble, frankly I'd rather be 3 sheets to the wind to be quite frank.

If you're in the air, yes. If it's on landing/take-off no. Would have been funny to see an easyJet load of pissed-up Brits spilling out into the Hudson river!

And that's the only time you've EVER used the word 'octopussy' and envisaged a man on top of a plane.

No problem with 6am airport beers here tho. Although lately I don't seem to have the time? I'm not into necking a pint in 5 mins for the sake of it but if there's time to kill then definitely. I go for a bloody Mary these days too..

Alps was bloody amazing too. 25degrees and wall to wall blue skies all day every day! Honestky, if they could guarantee that weather then I'd well rather spend 2 weeks there than at some beach resort...

I'm wondering how the Clown is managing on €60 a day at the mo. Mind you, at 1.43 to the pound, it should stretch to a reasonable lunch and a bottle of raki. George now urging tourists going to Greece to take enough cash for the whole stay.

They'll be back on the Drachma by this time next week. I bet he hasn't taken many of those. ;)

The clowns are managing perfectly well, thank you very much. But thanks ever so for caring.

I brought way more cash than I normally would. Some restaurants are trying to avoid accepting cards, but the local tourist authorities are sitting on them if they do. .... the tactic being "our machines aren't working".

Apparently if the cash machines are seeing your account as a foreign one then the €60 limit doesn't apply. The bigger concern is if the machines dry up.

Meanwhile the Greek Islands remain lovely places but are rather p'd at the latest Greek Government offer of changing their VAT status. They'd made a big point of not doing this in the elections but last week added it as a proposal.

Away to Skiathos on Friday morning but it has the feeling of impending doom about it all, and I don't mean the whole Greek situation.

Cosmos are just not looking after us at all. This is a villa holiday for the three of us and has cost a bomb lot, but just last month Cosmos changed our carrier from Small Planet to Enter Air, a Polish outfit with no UK bases and as far as I can ascertain they don't even go to Skiathos! And further, in an idle moment yesterday I wondered if there were any on-line reviews on them.... Worst thing I ever did! The reviews are shockingly bad. Frequent breakdowns needing long runway hours to fix bits, no English speaking aircrew, no food on board, no alcohol on board, they let you have a coffee but you have to make it yourself etc etc, but no crashes....yet.

Cosmos told us they would write again 14-21 days pre holiday to inform how to gain access to the villa but here we are with just two days to go and still nothing. Their help line is 13ppm and my email bounced back with a faq sheet informing that 'in most cases' the airport rep will have the key. In most cases? What the hell does that mean?

Stress free this is not!

Good luck, Clappers! I'm sure it will all work out right in the end and give you a great store of anecdotes.
