We were trying to defend. Trouble is things seem to happen when the opposition have a big score on the board and can place attacking fields.bwfcdan94 wrote:52-2 we are in trouble. Defend!

Dear oh dear, why didn't he appeal? Wicket for nothing there, and at a bad time.thebish wrote:52-2 - bresnan caught behind off his pocket...TANGODANCER wrote:Had to miss the last hour. What did we finish at?

Fxck that. Clarke didn't defend and since we're the best part of 500 runs behind defending a la Boycott is the last thing we need. Attack.bwfcdan94 wrote:52-2 we are in trouble. Defend!

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
we need neither to defend or attack - just to bad sensibly! hit the bad ball - let the wide ball go and defend the good ball... we can bat as long as we like - it doesn't really matter if we only score at 1.5 an over...TANGODANCER wrote:Fxck that. Don't agree... Boycott - while a despicable human being and irritating player and commentator was far from Mr Stonewall... he 'occupied the crease' - usually with judgment on line and length and gave the poor ball a thump...TANGODANCER wrote:Fxck that. To be fair Will (and I am not a huge fan of our batting usually) we batted well today. Trouble is with such a big score for them, means the odd good ball and bit of luck is enough for them.William the White wrote:Don't agree... Root got out to a decent ball. Bresnan wasn't even out.
As far as night watchmen go, there is in my mind a very limited role for them in specific conditions. Today wasn't one of them.

But it's not just that. We stick a night watchman in - he gets out -so we stick a batter in.BWFC_Insane wrote:As far as night watchmen go, there is in my mind a very limited role for them in specific conditions. Today wasn't one of them.

Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
Finally we might have a contest (weather permitting). Ditch the DRS system but allow the umpires to refer 'upstairs' if they are uncertain. Surely it has to be better than this odd system that allows only a certain number of appeals from the batting/fielding team? It must really be difficult for the men in charge in this day of millimetres and differentiation of bat/pad noises. Perhaps we should change to a system where every appeal will be reviewed via video and other sensing systems whilst the umps sip their gin and tonics in the pavilion and only appear to remove the bails or oversee the roller and repainting the markings? Let's get back to the basics of human error.
Re: creeeeeeeekeeeeeet
I suspect the sad truth is that Bresnan and cook both knew he wasn't out - and in the first test they would have appealed that... but - given the howlers that have been made when not-outs HAVE been appealed, they have lost confidence in the appeal system, that it will give a correct interpretation - and so decided that it wasn't worth risking an appeal on a tail-end batsman when the Oz are looking for 20wickets and we might need all the appeals we can get for the batsmen who might bat for much longer than Bresnan would...TANGODANCER wrote:Dear oh dear, why didn't he appeal? That is the exact same game that Tendulkar plays and many would argue that he is the greatest batsman since Bradman.William the White wrote:Don't agree... Not overly confident on Trott or Cooke generally right now. We seem to get saved by Bell, Prior and the middle guys. Not the best of starts, that's for sure.

Smith has just bowled the worst over I think I've ever seen. It bounced twice in six balls!

Ian Bell is like a real life texbook. His elbow is never lower than his shoulder, and his bat never comes outside his leg. He's a Geoffery wet-dream.
