I think the issue there isn't the (legitimate?) combatants, but the hundreds if not thousands that are killed by mistake. So. if we're to extrapolate that out, if the RAF is allowed to call the killing of civilians "an unfortunate mistake" why can't terrorists do the same?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

are you sure YOU are safe!! ;-)

(and - free from crime? - would it NOT be a crime to assassinate an innocent man with a drone strike?)
Look you don't mind the bloke offer him and his family refuge,

Well we operate armed drones, so in bish's eyes it surely must be a crime to kill these poor oppressed freedom fighters (who by the way feel free to murder just who the hell they like for their cause),

remind me - who has Qatada murdered?

An extremist preacher who said he had no sympathy for Alan Henning, the British hostage held by Islamic State radical, has been arrested as part of an investigation into Islamist terrorism.
Anjem Choudary was one of nine men arrested today as part of the investigation, sources told the Press Association.
Earlier this week Choudary said he did not feel sorry for Henning.
He was quoted as saying: “I don’t know the real story, I only heard from the British Government and media. We need to hear directly from the Islamic State as to why he is being held. The decision lies in the hands of the caliphate.”

Is that the test?

It's not that difficult to hold two concepts in mind at one: Qatada is a prick; and, being a prick isn't enough to get you imprisoned/ deported/ shot.

It was enough to get him deported from the UK. Didn't he fight deportation because he could not get a fair trial in Jordan? Turns out he may not have done.

You clearly have a problem with that, did your parents let all and sundry look after you?

You still don't have any children do you.

As for the cleric apart from what you have read, what do you actually know about him?

What's that got to do with anything?

I don't have kids, but if I did I wouldn't let him anywhere near him. That's not the test though, is it? 'I don't like you, so get in jail'.

Without getting into R4 cheap satire 'ha ha he's got hooks for hands', practically speaking it makes him quite the unsuitable candidate for babysitting. Even if he were a nice guy you'd be pretty far down your list before you got to him.

'Would you let Abu Qatada look after your kids?' sounds like an Alan Partridge phone in.

Stop the war group, what a load of bollox, I've just read their aims and constitution on their web page, stop this stop that but no fecking alternatives of their own.
Basically Kurds and innocent Iraqi's, Syrians, you'd be fecked under this lot, just be good and die quietly from Isis attacks.

Its a good enough test for me and if you are being honest with yourself, which you aren't, for you as well.

Oops. Well, these (alleged) terrorists all the look the same don't they? (despite the ones who have hooks for hands, they are easily identifiable)
