That's an evening very well spent. I did the full series back to back twice in consecutive days about 3 weeks ago. Yes, I had revision to do!

First of all - one of the funniest films I've seen, and probably the most quotable. F, star, star, c*nt. Steve Coogan's cameo was wonderful as well. Aw the film is just brilliant :D

It pretty much carries on the tradition of The Thick Of It in terms of repeating the self serving nature of politicians and public sector workers, and the cluelessness of it all. No bad thing, and very funny. There are some classic scenes and lines (the ones about 'blacking up' and the bit about porn literally had me recoiling in my seat due to recent events) and I'd recommend it to anyone.

The point re: satire...well, to be honest, the film is just an extended episode of The Thick of It, and I think people have come to this film expecting more than what it is (though to be honest when you think about it, the ending is quite terrifying...).
Well, I've now watched 5 episodes of The Thick Of It on Youtube as you suggested.

It's really good, highly recommended. I thought the film was very funny, but the mundanity of what goes on in the TV series arguably works even better and certainly rings more true.

I think the 'bitesize' format of a tv series helps the mundanity not become as tiresome as it does in a feature film. I would agree with you that the TV series seems a lot more natural.

New series is getting progressively worse for me. The last one was complete crap I thought. :(

I probably agree about the last episode not being as good, but still find it one of the best things on television given the current dearth of comedy. Similarly I thought the last series of Peep Show was nowhere near previous ones, but still the best thing on. Are there any other decent comedy series I'm missing?

Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle was good.

Although that finished last week.

Hence, if you missed it, tough....

Did anyone catch the new "Reggie Perrin" on Saturday? Bit after the event, but I thought it was funny in places, but how can anyone else successfully play Reggie Perrin than Leonard Rossiter?

I caught it. I laughed three times. The problem is that you can only take the same jokes so far. The late trains excuses weren't bad, although there's not much else to do after "Wrong Type Of Passengers" and "Funny Rucksack Found". I can't see CJ become anything other than the complete clone of the original he seems to be after episode one. Saying that, though, I liked the joke about removing the desk from his office in order to stop it being a barrier, only to sit in a chair twice as tall and grand as the other one in his office.

Not bad, though, considering it's a Friday night BBC1 comedy. The slot that brought us My Family and After You're Gone.

Think it's going to have to improve some to match the original :-) but like you say not bad as a start

I saw it and found it very predictable. Don't think I'll have another look.

Spoilt it somewhat. But the stand-up was some of the best I've seen on the idiot's lantern for years.

Currently ploughing through some back episodes of Classic Albums on Sky Arts - an underheralded channel with some hidden delights.

Gave The da Vinci Code a second airing tonight. Looked at a certain way both the book (much the better) and the film have something to offer and bring some awareness.

It is good, though more or less every episode is the same.
