If you need more than 32gb then I think the latest greatest comes with a 64gb option. I find the quality of HTC to be better than Samsung. Millions will disagree seeing as they sell so many of them, but having mucked about with both I prefer HTC. I also have a very expensive Samsung lappy/tablet combo thingy. It's good, but the build quality is not as good as it should be for the best part of 900 quid.Prufrock wrote:So I can have all my music on.
I'm not bothered about games! Just texts, phone, internet and music. Will have a look at the HTC

Re: Technology Thread.
It sounds like his current phone has only 256mb memory or even 512mb. With that and micro SD it is going to be painfully laggy. I know my old phone was. My newer 18 month old phone has more memory and still runs like it was new. I reckon I'll get at least another 2 years out of it before battery life etc becomes a problem.thebish wrote:^ be honest - you just want a shiny new phone to brag about!

If you want a cheap MP3 player with expandable memory, I have a sandisk which I'd recommend.Prufrock wrote:So I can have all my music on.

Re: Technology Thread.
i think i am probably simply out of touch and a bit old fashioned... I simply can't imagine why I would want gigabytage of portable music... s'probably why I find all this phone-stuff a bit puzzling!

Re: Technology Thread.
ive got about 10Gb of music on mine. syncs up with the car, sits in a speaker doc at home, has headphones hanging out of it when at work or on the move - why would you want anything else?
Re: Technology Thread.
i wouldn't... i've never been in the habit of listening to music on the move... i never had a casette-tape walkman or a portable CD player for the same reason... i know I am in a minority - i just can't see me ever doing that...General Mannerheim wrote:ive got about 10Gb of music on mine. syncs up with the car, sits in a speaker doc at home, has headphones hanging out of it when at work or on the move - why would you want anything else?

The only arse I ever get from having an Android phone is that the car interface I've got is for iPods/iPhones. OK to play Android stuff on the bluetooth (podcasts) but for general music the change track stuff isn't as good as the media interface and I can't be doing with fiddlign with the actual thing while driving, so I update my music on two devices...

Re: Technology Thread.
yeah my car and phone link up pretty well, over bluetooth too! so it just stays in my pocket but I can still have all the song information on the dash and control from the buttons on the steering wheel.
All backed up in those silly 'clouds' so if i lose it, like i just did recently, i get a new one and everything i had on my old phone magically appears, the scumbags.

Ha! I'm not against the idea of a shiny new phone in itself; I'm not anti-phones. This time last year I um-ed and ah-ed about getting a smartphone, but I'm glad I did. I do use the internet sometimes, I use the maps, I use the GPS when out running.thebish wrote:^ be honest - you just want a shiny new phone to brag about!
Also, I listen to music a lot, and when my i-pod died it made sense to get a big memory card and put it on my phone. I walk to and from work almost every day, run or gym 2-3 times per week, do a lot of train journeys, so that's a big thing, and it made sense to have it all on one whatsit.
That said, whilst I'm all for having a shiny one, it isn't that important to me, my current contract is £9pm, and I could have early-upgraded six weeks ago if I wanted. It is because this one is getting slow that I'm looking.
What I really can't face is going into the shop and being talked at by a guy in a shiny suit and a tight t-shirt in that 'street' accent all phone salesman have about stuff I don't really understand trying to get me to pay £30 every month for a phone. Ugh. Would rather figure out what I want on here, go in and shout IKNOWWHATIWANT over them.

Pru, I have an iphone 4 and its really good other then for actually making phone calls - I always end up muting people with my cheek but I think part of that issue is because its in quite a thick case (cos I keep dropping itPrufrock wrote:Ha! If you are muting people all the time then you have the phone to far away from your ear. The iPhone has a sensor which turns the screen off when your face/ear is close to the screen on calls and will only come back on when you move the phone away from your earGooner Girl wrote:Pru, I have an iphone 4 and its really good other then for actually making phone calls - I always end up muting people with my cheek but I think part of that issue is because its in quite a thick case (cos I keep dropping itPrufrock wrote:Ha! I pay £20 per month all in for calls, web, texts on tesco. My contract expires January and am currently debating whether to keep it or to upgrade and give Mr GG my old phone (i like the idea of a better camera with newer iphone but other then that can't see there's that much more worth paying for)

Thing is if I lived where you did I probably wouldn't either.thebish wrote:i wouldn't... i've never been in the habit of listening to music on the move... i never had a casette-tape walkman or a portable CD player for the same reason... i know I am in a minority - i just can't see me ever doing that...General Mannerheim wrote:ive got about 10Gb of music on mine. syncs up with the car, sits in a speaker doc at home, has headphones hanging out of it when at work or on the move - why would you want anything else?
But sitting in the car every day for 2 hours being able to have a huge collection of music on my phone is a real plus.
Same as my almost weekly train journeys down to London. Headphones in then work on the tablet or whatever, journey goes in no time.
Benefit of having it on your phone is you usually always have it with you. Easy to forget MP3 players when rushing for the 6am train!

Re: Technology Thread.
Took my laptop in this week and it would appear that the motherboard is fecked. Been told it'll cost me about a ton for a new one. As it's 4 years old, I'm thinking I might be better just buying a new one, as I can't imagine getting too much more use out of it. Looking for some advice to see if that's realistic, or would a new board give it a new lease of life?

Re: Technology Thread.
Personally I'd just get a new one if you have the cash. You get a lot more laptop for your money than 4 years ago and if you only use it for run of the mill stuff (Internet, documents etc) then 300-400 quid will get you something decent enough. Get something with 4gb RAM as less can be a pain in the arse somethimes. It would likely come with Windows 8, so install Classic Shell or Start8 to save you chucking it against the wall

Agreed. A new (and better) laptop will likely cost little more than the cost of having a new motherboard installed - possibly less.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:Personally I'd just get a new one if you have the cash. agreed that a new one is a better bet - but he's already been told the replacement is £100 - and the first suggestion is to spend £300-£400Montreal Wanderer wrote:Agreed. so - it's not gonna cost little more, possibly less! it's gonna cost 3 or 4 times as much!
