Oh, and we can still leave any time we want, under Art. 50...of the TEU. Even after 2017...

And let's not forget the opt out that we currently have on 11 items in that list including asylum, border controls, immigration, criminal law....

And some of the others that have very limited QMV or are just plain wrong. All in all, an excellent piece of research.

Ok so why can we not stop or control EU migrants then?Worthy4England wrote:And let's not forget the opt out that we currently have on 11 items in that list including asylum, border controls, immigration, criminal law....
Because it's a founding principle of free movement of people.
Opt out nullified!
How many more little twist and turns are in the EU hidden agenda? Quite a few I suspect.
Re: The Politics Thread
let's not forget - as some might find it tempting to do - that it was the UK that championed the entry of many of these Eastern European states into the EU in the first place - because we thought they might be on our side...

Re: The Politics Thread
When you made your original post on this Hoboh, it was hardly a "little twist and turn" post. it was an OMGZ!
In answer to your first question, for an opt-out to work (bit like a veto), you have to use your bloody opt-out. We haven't, universally done so. That's us. Our local elected parliament. None other.

That 'opt out' ended on the 1st Jan 2014 Worthy and you know it was only temporary.

I don't believe either of those statements are correct in relation to the 11 Opt-Outs the blog was referring to, but happy to be shown different somewhere, by your good self.Hoboh wrote:That 'opt out' ended on the 1st Jan 2014 Worthy and you know it was only temporary.

This bit is interesting
http://www.euromove.org.uk/index.php?id=10795" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;•since the dates of movement of Non-EU Member Country nationals across the external borders are not recorded, there is no way of systematically detecting overstayers;

Re: The Politics Thread
I'm missing the bit that points to UK not having the 11 Opt-outs, in relation to the policy areas your post drew out attention to?
The quote you've posted, talks about the dates of movements of Non-EU Member Country nationals...

We do NOT have control over our own borders because of the EU founding principle of free movement so how the feck have we got an opt out on borders and immigration? you explain for a change!

I did, a few post up. An Opt-out, rather like a veto, only works, if we choose to use it. Us. Our parliament. Elected by you and me. There are other founding principles (such as a single currency) that we have an opt out on, which we have chosen to exercise. To quote one of your favourite sites at you, our opt out from what was Schengen is articulated on one of them (see above link).
Your post that triggered this was loosely about QMV. For immigration, this hasn't changed. It was QMV in both the Nice and Lisbon treaties. What point are you trying to make? I thought it was about you QMV list? Or have you moved onto immigration again, because a lot of that list was bollocks?

And you sir are a tw*t!The comedian, 39, joined hundreds of tenants from an east London estate who marched on Downing Street because they have been threatened with eviction. But Mr Brand, who is calling for an anti-capitalist revolution and claims 'profit is a filthy word' despite being worth £9million, called a journalist a 'snide' because he asked the value of his home. Channel Four reporter Paraic O'Brien asked whether he was part of London's housing problem with vast swathes of homes being bought up by the super rich. Brand said: 'It's rented. I'm not here to talk about my rent, mate'. Ending the uncomfortable interview Brand said 'Let's do one' and told the reporter: 'Snides like you undermine it. You're a snide.'

THE leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, has ruled himself out of the race to become the first Greater Manchester Mayor.
Yeah, me too.
