Is there a point you're making, or was the whole point to call her a witch? How's Harriet these days?Hoboh wrote:Christine Lagarde, one of the neo-con commander in chiefs!

Lagarde is just another branch of the corporate globalisation of the world tree and anyway for a person like her to poke her nose into a British election campaign shows how impartial she and her organisation actually are.Worthy4England wrote:Is there a point you're making, or was the whole point to call her a witch? I don't think she's poking her nose in to our election campaign. She's at an Economics conference in Washington. The Daily Mail has chosen to report in this. Have a go at them.
You don't think the IMF has an important role to play? What/who would perform the role that the IMF are there to do, if not the IMF or similar organisation? Would you rather that role was played by commercial banks or worse, businesses and private investors? I can just see the look on your face when George Soros announces that he has repossessed Chad and the UK because they've defaulted on loans...
Re: The Politics Thread
Actually no I don't think there is a role for the IMF, the IMF merely ensures people like Soros get their money back from places like Greece and others and just whose feckin' money is all the 'loans' the IMF are giving away?Worthy4England wrote:Oh dear, here we go again...Hoboh wrote:Lagarde is just another branch of the corporate globalisation of the world tree and anyway for a person like her to poke her nose into a British election campaign shows how impartial she and her organisation actually are.Worthy4England wrote:Is there a point you're making, or was the whole point to call her a witch? What went wrong when starting a business used to be taking a chance with risks? Now a days business and financiers want the insurance of organisations like the IMF because of course they are too big and important to fail and this just encourages them to take bigger more ludicrous risks pouring money into black hole countries all over the world!

It's main raison d'etre was always to try and create stable trading environments for countries. Countries (not corps), when left to their own devices tend to want to do two things economically 1) Stop other countries "stealing" their internal market (from which they raise revenue) and 2) Try and steal other countries internal markets by making their exports more price competitive. To accomplish this, they often used to devalue their own currencies so exports were cheaper or seek other ways to manipulate the FX rates. Devaluation is a downward spiral. So a large part of what it does is to minimize the size of ludicrous risk.
To this end it performs a surveillance operation signed up to by the 188 Countries that are in it (all your friends are in - China, Russia, Iran

Yes it also gives loans - we had one from them in the 1970's. It was the largest loan they'd ever given.
When a business (or a country) goes bump, it affects rather more than the business itself. It impacts its employees, the people that had orders waiting dispatch that they'd paid for etc. I'm not sure of the link you're making to business - the IMF doesn't loan to businesses.
You really don't get how any of this works, do you?

Re: The Politics Thread
Well - every democratically elected UK Government since 1945 has seen fit to maintain our membership of the IMF. I do wonder occasionally why that might be? (actually that's a lie - I know why they maintain our membership) Don't you?Hoboh wrote:No, just stop living in fairy land with magic money!Worthy4England wrote:Sorry, do I need to use some shorter words and draw some pictures?Hoboh wrote:I give up![]()

What we did without banks, accountants, financiers and crooks was barter individually or collectively - are you suggesting we should go back to this?

If x thousand people decided to take x thousands of pounds out of a bank the feck* would turn off it's cash points and bolt the doors aka Northern rock because the bastards just don't have any real cash, well not much, just figures on paper the same as much of this great holy grail of finance. Just the same as shareholders are not investors in companies, after the initial sales of them.
Re: The Politics Thread
Are we are having the poll reset on this thread this year?

Shocking. In their words.
Is it equally shocking that most of the MP's who have passed through the privatisation legislation have links to, drum roll please, private healthcare providers?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Then you look at the table and what do you see? Yep, all the Brits receiving benefits in Spain, Italy, Portugal, the East European countries as opposed to their citizens claiming over here!
Funny when something meant to defend a position merely points out what is being said that the poor basket case countries are flooding our markets.
And please one third of those are in Ireland hardly a surprise there, looks like the famed Poles are the laziest.
