Re: The Politics Thread
Chill out Hoboh. We may, or may not leave the Euro. Financial analyses of what would happen if we did leave, are at best just guesswork. I can't see anyone voting for financial instability, which makes a 'No' vote a fair certainty. No point getting all hot and bothered about something that isn't in your control.

Way to go!!!
So the behind doors stitch ups to swerve around democracy are stating already, our two best pals in Europe sealing deals that doge any treaty changes to avoid votes on them from the citizens of numerous members.
Step one has started.
'Peace in our time' will get strung up with the wrong meaning again if they are not careful.
how on earth does any of that amount to "swerving around democracy"? The people will vote on an in/out question - then it will be done, either way.

Surely it cannot have slipped your mind that I was saying this was the way the EU was going, deals behind doors with scant regard to any form of democracy and as such why I thoroughly dislike the fact we are in it!
The choice in the vote is obvious, give up your democratic rights to a commissionaire led government, do as you are told or stay with the flawed form of democracy you have now and control, to a degree, your own destiny.
Re: The Politics Thread
no democratic rights are being given up - it is merely the case the Germany and France are working on some issues entirely WITHIN the treaties already democratically agreed. Also - how is it behind closed doors when the proposals will be presented to the full council?
what's happening here is simply the working of international politics - and to succeed in that you need to build alliances and foster trust with other nations...
this is something that Cameron has singularly sucked at - he has done the opposite - he has alienated the very people he should have been building alliances and trust with - pretty soon he'll be whining that nobody will listen to his shopping list of reforms...
We are supposed to be experts at diplomacy - it's what we brits are supposed to be ace at - yet, under Cameron - we're totally pants at it!

EU/FIFA, what's the difference except one set of fiddling bastards has been caught manipulating votes and cash!

I'm sure BBC R4 will be in touch soon regarding your upcoming satirical radio show.Hoboh wrote:EU/FIFA, what's the difference except one set of fiddling bastards has been caught manipulating votes and cash!

Followers of Britain First add their sage remarks to the Kos refugee situation! It's an open forum so is anyone up for defending these? ![Confused :conf:](./images/smilies/confused.gif)

I fecking HATE BF with a passion! I was lambasted on another forum just last week for making my feelings clear to a poster that had innocently shared one of their 'harmless' posts.

If they have left a 'safe' country like Turkey they are no longer refugees but economic migrants.
I'm glad I'm not going on holiday to any of the Greek islands.
What I cannot understand is the Greeks putting up with it, tourism is the life blood of these places and they will kill it stone dead and I don't reckon it's going to be long before a crime wave over there.

A colleague of mine came back from a Med cruise last week. Previously, they've loved Sicily but now she describes it as a huge refugee camp, with a nasty undercurrent.

I see that the 66 year old, Jeremy Corbyn has thrown his cap into the Labour Leadership contest. Just read up on him - he sounds to be slightly left of Karl Marx. I thought the party were aiming at being slightly left of centre? ![Confused :conf:](./images/smilies/confused.gif)

He is absolutely my generation and originated in the Trotskyist left, a place where I also spent a little time. He's a committed socialist. I'd be amazed if he got enough nominations to stand. And even if he did he will get pitifully few votes.Bruce Rioja wrote:I see that the 66 year old, Jeremy Corbyn has thrown his cap into the Labour Leadership contest. I don't care for him personally, but I'm ok with most of his ideas.
I have always thought that it's hard to be a tough proletarian revolutionary if you are called Jeremy. Or, indeed, Leslie.
Re: The Politics Thread
He's my MP. Also don't care for him personally but think it's good for the party to have people like him in it, albeit on the back benches not in charge!

Jeremy Corbyn.
Now, I'd pay good money to see him win the leadership.

Firstly you should know .... and be told annually ... that you are paying a political levy.
Secondly ... bring it on. It'd make Michael Foot's leadership seem like a triumph.

Re: The Politics Thread
The levy should be opt in. And the Govt are talking about making it that way which is good.
Although I do share Matthew Parris' view that this is somewhat hypocritical from a party funded by bankers and hedge-funds. Turns out they're OK with *some* people buying influence.

I'm paying my 3 quid to join and voting for Jeremy. That should see the end of Labour for 20 years or more!

Apparently at least 4,000 'Tories-4-Jeremy' types have signed up. £3 well spent I say.Bijou Bob wrote:I'm paying my 3 quid to join and voting for Jeremy. That should see the end of Labour for 20 years or more!

What a resounding endorsement of the strength of belief they have in the Government they've just elected.bobo the clown wrote:Apparently at least 4,000 'Tories-4-Jeremy' types have signed up. £3 well spent I say.Bijou Bob wrote:I'm paying my 3 quid to join and voting for Jeremy.
