Today I'm angry about.....

It's clearly a ridiculous idea, but yet again folk fall for the OMG 'elf and safety you can't do nuffink anymore. No-one is being sued for this, and no-one is going to be. It would clearly be laughed out of court, which it wouldn't get to in the first place. Unfortunately some daft sod has given some silly advice and the papers have jumped upon it in a shocking move for the normally calm sensible, and never reactionary Sun.
In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Ah so these people are all daft sods then?Prufrock wrote:It's clearly a ridiculous idea, but yet again folk fall for the OMG 'elf and safety you can't do nuffink anymore. The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has warned its members that if people think an area has been cleared of ice and then fall over and injure themselves - they could take legal action.
Bring it on, get the unempolyed up the chimneys again and "proper ladders" back in the warehouse.
I know if these are daft sods what does it make the human rights people? lets smash their mafia next and start beating the hell out of the paedo's and such like.

The daft sods are those people who are gullible enough to lap up what the newspapers feed them.
“Deciding whether to grit beyond the boundaries of their property needs to be carefully considered by companies. If access to the premises is covered in ice, companies may choose to grit the access to help their staff and visitors arrive and leave safely, even though it’s not their property. However, in this instance, if they failed to grit the surface properly and someone had an accident as a result, then they could incur some liability.Little Green Man wrote:No it hasn't.Hobinho wrote: The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health has warned its members that if people think an area has been cleared of ice and then fall over and injure themselves - they could take legal action.

“As a general rule, though, it’s sensible for firms to consider the risks and take reasonable steps to prevent accidents from happening. If this means gritting outside the boundaries of your workplace, then it’s better to do that than to have people slipping over or involved in car crashes on your doorstep.”
In other words, our position is to encourage businesses to be a good employer and neighbour by gritting beyond property boundaries and to make sure that the task is carried out thoroughly.
Black n white that! tell me where the press story is wrong then?
The little add ons could have been stuck on as an after thought, you considered that?

Pity we've developed a claim and compensation culture for people who don't wear the right footwear (fashion boots with spike heels and ordinary high heels I've seen staggering around town this week) and can't accept they have to behave differently and take a bit of care in these conditions. (like the middle-aged woman on the TV news who decided to jog down the street on any icy pavement and then looked pained and surprised when she finished up on her ass.) What next, ice-whiplash? Everything is somebody else's fault these days. Life gets dafter by the day. Oh, hey..it's snowing again and it's all coming from America. Yanks out.
though this is often said - I doubt it is true - at least I have never seen any convincing evidence other than tabloid headlines that claim that we are all suing people for stupid things - I don't believe we are.....

Only this morning I was telling folk that it's ridiculous that people sit on their hands moaning because the council hasn't helped them and to do something about it. My uncle lives on a quiet cul de sac in a village near Peterborough, and they got off their bums and shovelled the whole street because it was a bit glass lake. I thought "good on em", bit of initiative. I didn't think it was right we sat back and expected it all done for us, a bit of community spirit and all that.
Then it turns out...we actually should sit back. We should do nothing. We should let the "experts" do it and moan if not done. Absolutely wanker-level of ridiculousness. Very disillusioned with this country.
calm down - it's bollox!

I'm looking at setting up at home with Broadband and a new laptop.Il Pirate wrote:This new bollox about free laptops and broadband for the poorest ........whatever happened to feckin working for a living?
I'm looking at paying £400 - £600 for the laptop and then a broadband package will cost me on average £40 per month.
So that's potentially over £1000 for my first year.

but you can buy a perfectly reasonable laptop for £300-£350 that would do for the vast majority of people. You can also get broadband at a reasoanble speed for £15-20pm (suitable for most peoples needs).Gary The Beaver wrote:I'm looking at setting up at home with Broadband and a new laptop.Il Pirate wrote:This new bollox about free laptops and broadband for the poorest ........whatever happened to feckin working for a living?

There is also the library and interweb cafe places. I don't think the Internet is a fundamental right of everyone. Lets focus on getting people fed and housed before worrying if they know how to find hotdodgyinternetpornfornonworkingpeople.info

No, nothing serious thanks, Monty, more unpleasant really. Long and short of it is; I had a tooth out and only the lower half (the visible bit) came out. The roots are apparently fused to the bone so need to cutting out. My boss has been great about it, although I'm sure I've heard sniggering from certain quarters over the past week or two.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Hope it is nothing serious, Bruce, and that the bosses are understanding (i.e. not from Burnley like some of your co-workers). good luck.

Look on the bright side. You could get a few quid from your claret co-workers for the tooth already removed. Half a tooth is better than none at all.Bruce Rioja wrote:No, nothing serious thanks, Monty, more unpleasant really.
