Well it started with slapping up metal hand rails and footbridges all over the shop as opposed to replacing existing wooden stuff that had been there donkeys. Really fits in the environment they do.bobo the clown wrote:Really ?

What's got worse however is their restrictions over the land. At the moment I'm speaking with a vested interest as a fell runner but it wont be long before it starts to effect everyone using the land. A lot of the fell races that go over the moorland started dropping off the calendar, or the routes being altered so much they became no more than trail runs along the public footpaths. This was due to UU advising their tenant farmers they would be holding them responsible for any 'damage' to the moorland (estimates of 25k were referred to at 1 meeting I attended). As a result the farmers have little choice but to refuse or restrict access.
It appears to be the thin end of a very large wedge as UU seek to limit the numbers of folk enjoying the area but are happy to sanction it if folk are paying through the nose (Wealthy races sponsored by Soloman are unaffected). Don't know if you've been up there lately Bobo but there's a lot more fencing being thrown up - up around the mast area to try and stop ramblers (& runners) going off road

Blackburn 4 - 1 Bolton. I don't even need to explain any further why I am angry.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

If it's by the mast that's more Winter Hill than Rivington so less my old stomping ground, but yes it does seem heavy handed & 'thin end of the wedge'. Bad news.Harry Genshaw wrote:Well it started with slapping up metal hand rails and footbridges all over the shop as opposed to replacing existing wooden stuff that had been there donkeys. Land belongs to the people. Fvck united utilities and all their ilk. Claim the land of Britain for the people of Britain. It is ours by right. We shall wander, ramble, cycle, and fvckin' rampage all over it. For I am British, and this is my land! If you want to frack it; first you must frack me, and I aint gonna be fracked by any jumped up fvckin tosser from parliament who has shares in some gas company, who wants to rape my land for personal profit. The land should always belong to the people. We are the people. If you want to fvck with us, bring it on. 'Cos we are sick of being told what we should buy, how we should behave, how we should adhere to the restrictions on our freedoms, because you fvckers who think are in charge, think it is for the best. Fvck you. National security? Fvck off. That lame excuse may wash with Daily Mail readers, but for people who know what's going on? Realy? It may have worked 100 years ago, when governments could scare the populus, but not now. Do what you want ( within reason of course), when you want. And fvck this and subsequent governments. We are the people, and those who pretend to rule, should listen to us.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Struth, Il Pirate, you are in a bad mood. My grandmother had two brothers who owned farms (and a number who didn't) who would have been somewhat unimpressed by your ravings. Both of them had public rights of way crossing their properties and - I think it was once a year - had to place a sign at the various entrance points indicating that it was closed for the day. I know that they both did the deed but I suspect that they wouldn't have worried if the locals ignored the signs. Of course those rights were confined to defined paths as defined by the leasehold or title and certainly didn't give carte blanche to the populace at large to run riot over the farmers' crops, disturb fences or otherwise disrupt the running of the farm.
If you like, my buccaneer friend, I'll do my best to organise a fun run of, say, 14Km in length, and plot the course to pass through your property 14 times. These fun runs will be scheduled at six week intervals so as to allow the participants and yourself to recover.

I put my contacts in this morning with a small towel fibre under the right lens. I think it was, ir maybe it was a specially sharped piece of coal the size of a small Greek Island. It was difficult to distinguish to be honest.

This .... sorry Blackbeard, but land belongs to it's owner. Some land has permissions for people to walk through it ... but otherwise people cannot simply stroll through.Bruce Rioja wrote:Errr, no it doesn't. I'd take the gun to people wandering coolly through my back garden without permission.
Nice rant though, bravo.

Yea, nice rant but do fxck off: people do what you want ? Really ? That's half the problem, not the fxcking answer - Martyn & Wayne Frinstance were doing exactly what they wanted, and probably claiming Old Harry Rocks as the people's ( their) rocks. They're not, fxck off, they're the Nation's - which is a completely different concept.

The wife.
Every week, I give her one simple job to do. Pick some numbers. They don't even have to be in the correct order. And there's only 50 to choose from. Yet she singularly can't get the right ones and I end up having to chug to work every Monday, when I should be sunning it on a cruise somewhere.
I think there's going to be a sacking shortly.

Great. The Red Arrows come buzzing over the rooftops of Over Haddon (some commemoration up at Chatsworth) watched by two locals and half a dozen tourists, followed by the splat splat splat of eight dead housemartins. What a fxcked up world we live in. I had no idea that Red Arrows equals slaughter in the sky. Fxcking booooooooooooo.

Which MPs have shares in gas companies?

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I thought it was top ranting by the Pirate
The thing that bugs me about Winter Hill/Rivington is that large swathes of it were/are public land. Lord Leverhulme donated some of it to the public iirc but not sure how or when UU ended up managing it. There's a plaque over near the top reservoir at Winter Hill about how in the 1890s the Bolton public engaged in mass disobedience by walking across the land they were being barred from. I can see something similar happening again in the not too distant future.
There are beaches on Long Island in NY that the public cant access because they're owned by wealthy folk. You'd think a public beach cant be bought but wealthy home owners along the coast have bought and closed all the access roads. Michael Moore on his TV Nation series in the 1980s got round it by taking a boat load of folk onto the beach via the sea

Indeed, I wrote a short celebratory play about it, which was produced by Bolton Socialist Club, and toured to various socialist, labour, trade union venues... called Will you Come o Sunday Morning. The moor was 'owned' by the Ainsworth family, patriarch Colonel Ainsworth, but Winter hill was then a major venue for sunday morning walks, to get the mill out of the lungs. Obviously, most popular in summer. This coincided with the grouse season, of course, so the colonel decided to 'close' the moor to the public. Assorted socialist trouble makers in the town organised the first mass trespass in the country - 50 years before Kinder Scout - and 10,000 people turned up - simply to walk on the hill... At which pont the colonel discover closing a hill was not easy - though dozens were arrested and some sent to prison. The following Sunday 15000 turned up...
I know which side I'm on... Bruce and bobo may feel differently...
