what is the longest you have made a dish last? (by dint of making too much - or adding to it each day... like, a rolling curry...)
My rich beef stew that lived on the stove for about four days - each serving was better than the last.

Got a bit carried away this lunch time. Had two whacking buttered ovenbottoms with lettuce, tomatoes, onion etc,one with roast beef and one with peppered ham, both with a touch of mustard. Delightful but.....think beans on toast will be quite enough for tea tonight. :(

I had curry for lunch yesterday, that I never quite got around to on Saturday night, due to my "celebratory mood"...

I can't quite believe this - but a v serious heads up to wine drinkers and people wanting to 'celebrate' - Aldi has a bottle of Champagne at £9.99.

This is an impossible price - so bought it without any expectations at all...

Tried it tonight - it is very good - very seriously good for an impossible price...

Had it with current spicy chicken fave... And will buy again...

The story on the street is that Aldi buy surplus stuff from champagne producers (does this exist?) and slap a different label on it, and only release at Christmas...

any thoughts on this LK?

Anyway... look forward to next Friday...

Its a perfectly plausible scenario as most Champagne Marques are negociants not vineyard owners (a similar thing thing happens quite often in Burgundy).

I'm always a little sceptical of cheap Champagne, though, as its actually quite expensive to get a bottle of the stuff together. This is because of Champagne's northerly lattitude, and also because the Methode Champenois is very labour intensive (last time I checked, about 5 years ago, it cost about £6 a bottle to assemble, before export and tax etc). This partly explains why all fizz can be expensive, but again many simply ride on the back of the kudos of Champagne.

However...

I'm also wary of expensive Champagne, as no other AOC I know is allowed to flagrantly adulterate its wines in the way Champagne producers do. They get away with adding sugar, adding wines from different years, allsorts. Which means the premium product you get is essentially the same thing with stuff added.

So its worth a try, though a small suggestion I would give if looking for cheap fizz is look out for anything designated a "Cremant". These are essentially wines from all over France that use Methode Champenoise, usually at a fraction of the price.

AnywayI've cracked open a bottle of Vin de pays de Comte Tolosan to celebrate. And yet again, I'll be watching MOTD. This is becoming a bit of a habit.

I'd like to crack it over Lineker's head.

Though that would probably be a bottle of Echo Falls or some other new world shite. I have standards when I assault people with a deadly weapon.

Just called into Aldi over by me to take this offer up and they haven't a drop of anything that's even been through Champagne on the back of a waggon! :(

Still, I've still got a couple of bottles of Lanson Black Label from a Tesco offer earlier in the year. :pissed:

Don't know of any decent Australian whiskey but you can get a lot of Scottish and Irish ones, and I have an excellent Japanese one as well. But they are not cheap!!! In fact they are Bl**dy expensive, so I'm drinking McAllister plonk tonight, but it still gets you drunk  !

I'm still to try a Japanese one. People I know that have, honestly couldn't hold more opposite views. I shall have to find out for myself - what a punishment :D .

Spent a week over on Islay in July. Heaven! Had a tour of the Kilchoman Distillery (which is still a working farm and where they still do everything by hand). Bought a bottle of this year's Spring release but have no intention of opening it just yet.
