It's a proper Win 8 Pro machine - should be for just shy of a grand! Problem is, Windows 8 is really shit using it in desktop mode and touch. App mode is ok, but I've yet to find an app that is any good, or at least as good as proper desktop. I used Mango on a phone ages ago and that were fine. Not as good as the Meego phone Nokia did. That were a shame as that had potential.

i thought you could just run anything you wanted on the proper Pro tablets. because they just use one of intel's x64 processors and not the ARM ones, so all the windows software ever written just runs on them.

MS's Surface 2 pro tablet seems like the flagship one now, them's dear too.

the meego thing is still going , its called jolla or sailfish or something now, you can load it on the nokia N9 and others or buy their new phones theyre compatible some with android apps too. you probably know this already. them Tizen based phones are also related to meego, but thats samsung related so ymmv.

You can load any Windows 7/8 compatible software and it largely works. Problem is, desktop software just doesn't work well in touch. Half the time it is impossible click what you want because it is too small. If you make it bigger, it doesn't all fit on the screen. Making things for a small screen then plonking it on a laptop size screen and vice-versa just doesn't work. I'd just not bother with the touch screen bit, but the track pad and click button is the worst excuse I've ever come across. It is virtually unusable, meaning you need a mouse, which defeats the whole concept. Aside from quick boot time, a cheapo 200 quid laptop would be better.

Moral of the story, is buy a regular laptop and get either a Nexus 7/10 or an iPad (can't believe I'm advocating an iPad  ). If anyone needs an ultra portable lightweight laptop then Sony do an 11.6" screen laptop that weighs not much more than a feather.

You could of course get a detachable.

As it happens, I've not had a minute's problem with my Samsung tab.

She needed Windows for work stuff. We have an old Asus Transformer, but a little past it's best now. The idea was one device to replace the Transformer. I've now bought a Nexus 7 for tablet stuff and very happy with it. I've an old school laptop with Windows 8 on it, so I at least don't need to use the Samsung :)

There's not enough paper in the World. Forests would be lost forever .... and that would be Bragg's fault.

And he calls himself concerned for the environment !!!!

System Network Services? Had a couple of calls from guys rambling on about being concerned about my laptop..(don't have one, the wife does). Knowing suppliers don't make phone calls, who are these people? I just cut the calls.

We get a lot of these though they say they the Windows Security team and my computer is causing problems. The calls generally come from India. It's just a scam to get you to buy something you don't need. That's happened to you before I think so now be wise. Go with the whistle.

Not sure where they're getting my land line no from, but it can't only be me. Always Asian accents. Worry not, I won't fall for any of them again. Once bitten etc....

They have computers dial every number and just pick up if someone answers. You might notice there is a slight pause after you answer - they get a flash that it's been answered and pick up. Bastards.

These cheeky c*nts have taken to dropping the call on you if you go at all off script. Bastards.

They often get my surname wrong, thus proving they are scamming. "You have asked for this call ...

"hello sir, we're doing some replacement windows/soffits in your area - would you like us to come round and give you a quote?"

"ooh - really? where exactly are you? could i see you from my window? I'll go and have a look... can you get your man to wave? Is he the bloke up a ladder at number 37?? etc...

Register with the TPS http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We're registered at home and hardly ever get spam calls. If we do, mother Pru just says 'we're registered with the TPS' and they apologise and ring off.

I've just seen when finding that link that they do mobile numbers too now, so I'll be doing that so the f*ckers stop constantly ringing trying to get me to claim back PPI.

Their website does say they can't do a lot about spam from abroad though, so sounds like unfortunately you're on a list TD.
