The Kings shilling was a Regency or earlier term, a signing on fee for volunteers in the armed forces of army and navy. The rest???Worthy4England wrote:Hoboh wrote:Staggering inflation!!!
Soldiers take the King/Queens shilling.

Re: The Politics Thread
We covered that and the Press Gangs in fourth form history, Tango, so I've got that one. I think I've also sussed that the "Three quid Trot brigade" is reference to those that spent £3 to join the Labour Party during the leadership election, but as to why they're a "Trot brigade"? A blank is drawn. "An example of tax levels to come no doubt", well, not only do I fail to make any semblance of a connection but fail to see how someone that will never be in office, nor his chancellor, be setting tax levels?! A puzzling post and some!TANGODANCER wrote:The Kings shilling was a Regency or earlier term, a signing on fee for volunteers in the armed forces of army and navy. Ah sorry
It was a reference one of Corbyn's knob heads made about the new found labour party members being a peoples army.
The real army gets the schilling, the Trotsky army have to shell out three quid.
Wrong forum, it should have gone in the Guardian comments

He carn't half pick 'um!
'Racist' police caused the 'justified anger of the riots', says Jeremy Corbyn's new equalities MP
Kate Osamor described the police shooting of Mark Duggan – a violent gangster whose death led to the riots – as a ‘clear miscarriage of justice’
She said it was ‘matter of time before feeling of justified anger exploded'
Violent gangster Duggan was linked to ten shootings and two murders
Osamor has been an MP since May and is member of Corbyn’s inner circle

Re: The Politics Thread
Just when you thought one day it might be safe to vote Labour,Elsewhere in his BBC interview, Corbyn signalled he would repeal legislation introduced by Margaret Thatcher that outlawed “sympathy strikes”, in which workers joined a picket line to support colleagues from another industry. Asked whether he supported getting rid of the restrictions, he said: “Sympathy action is legal in most other countries. It should also be legal here.”
He also said he thought there should be “reasonable accommodation” with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, and there must be a “route through” to Islamic State to help bring about an end to the conflict in Syria, pointing out that governments in the region were already in touch with the group.

Re: The Politics Thread
In one interview he managed to suggest re-introduction of sympathy strikes, making an accommodation with Argentina Iver the Falklands and keeping Trident subs (for the jobs & Unite/GMB support) but sailing them around without the warheads.

Don't nuclear warhead factory workers, nuclear warhead health and safety representatives, nuclear warhead testing technicians and nuclear warhead transport drivers all belong to unions as well. Up the workers.

The last two times of Blair, voted Lib Dem.
Abstained 2010 voted UKIP last time out, got what I wanted out of UKIP, a referendum forced upon the establishment unfortunately that let Dave 'Bacon' Cameron back in.
TBH but for UKIP I probably would have spoilt my voting paper, I found none of them really acceptable.
