But cutting disability benefit will have a real and noticeable impact on some people's lives.
What would be interesting would be this 'sugar' tax if TTIP was in place, no doubt the multinational soft drinks companies would be falling over lawyers suing the Gov for an unfair practise affecting their trade.
And we have not got TTIP in place yet, just the bloody European courts!

It definitely feels grown up listening to the Today programme. I think I've stuck with Radio 5 in the past to get a bit of sport, but there's no need for that any moreWorthy4England wrote:I always maintain that R4 is for bloke me Dad's age. I think the tax is a bit of a mess, but only in the sense that you can still order half a dozen donuts, whilst you're buying your high-tax Irn Bru...and what about them coffees that have about ten ton of sugar in? That's more of a problem for me, than the European Courts.Hoboh wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... tax-budget" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Worthy4England wrote:How is this different than the duty we put on fuel, tobacco, alcohol etc. etc.? IDS's interview on Sunday with Andrew Marr
Awfully nice of Corbyn not to mention IDS's resignation at all in the Commons today.

...and Osborne hasn't turned up - has sent a junior minister to deal with labours pre-tabled urgent questions about the Budget...
Re: The Politics Thread
I read someone the other day describe the 2020 election as a deathmatch between 1983 Labour and 1997 Tories

In a world that has decided
That it's going to lose its mind
Be more kind, my friends, try to be more kind.

Re: The Politics Thread
Ok - I thought I was reasonable at maths, but clearly I'm not as astute as I thought I was. Here's the maths question that's stumping me
Mr Arthur Government wants to save £12bn from welfare by 2020. Mr Dick Chancellor presents some figures to do just that (showing all his workings in the margin). A short while later Mr Cliff Jumper takes £4.4bn away from Mr Chancellors neat working out. Mr A Government says we're not going to cut welfare any further but the £12bn will still add up. Please explain how this could be - definitely show your workings in the margin, as you will score marks for humour content, even if the answer at the bottom is incorrect.

Zero marks for a wrong answer and no workings out in the margin. You know what? That is very accurate.Prufrock wrote:I read someone the other day describe the 2020 election as a deathmatch between 1983 Labour and 1997 Tories
Though I think we will see a repeat of 92 with everyone thinking the Tories are out before they win with a reduced majority. Labour make themselves re-electable and get in 5 years down the line.

Unbelievable, it sounds like the worst of corruption stories from a banana republic . Lavery and Murphy(?) clearly think that they are above the laws governing the fiduciary obligations applying to officers of a trade union. It'll be interesting to watch the wriggling worms try to get off the hook.KeyserSoze wrote:Incredible reading. I think the poor bugger must have early stage Alzheimers - he has been dressed as Jeremiah Corbyn by his wife or carer and he hasn't noticed.TANGODANCER wrote:Trouble at't local (tax) mill.
