I don't drive that is me 1 - 0 supermarkets. Its more the fact that they just do this to sell products it is not like they do it to stop thief's or to help police capture/identify crooks.bobo the clown wrote:They already film every person and their car no. plate and have done for years.
I may find it more of an intrusion that I start getting messages I don't want, however.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Dan, that's the whole point of this. Targeted advertising. Tesco already have full access to this via my clubcard. If they're giving me vouchers for free stuff, I don't give a shit. My concern is when they put an ad on the screen for Grecian 2000 or suchlike when I walk in to the shop. My understanding is that it's only in the petrol station anyway. I always pay at the pump.bwfcdan94 wrote:No not in the slightest I just feel it is wrong that we are in a country that has so much surveillance yet we still let crooks (like the terror suspect who walked into a mosque and then escaped wearing a burkha) get away. Such surveillance does not detur hardened criminals as they just mask up (or burkha up) and do what they like as though they weren't under surveillance in the slightest. Lets put it this way Chirpy if your happy with Tesco taking your picture then are you happy me or anybody else taking your picture while your at the shops, would you be happy me recording your shopping order and then would you be happy me posting adverts/ sending you emails telling you to buy my product or would you find that somewhat annoying. I guarantee that for every one bit of information you think your supermarket knows about you there is 9 things that they know about you that you don't think they know (and maybe you don't want them to know).Chirpy wrote:Have you got something to hide?bwfcdan94 wrote:I am sorry but this is just a step too far. Supermarket surveillance is set to be taken to a whole new level.http://money.aol.co.uk/2013/11/04/tesco ... d%3D220519

Tailored advertisements would make me think twice about entering such a building or area.

Every time you Amazon or eBay, or even, TW Forum, you get targeted. I've never heard anybody complain about that. What's so different here? Also it won't work. If you have a queue f three and they are all different demographics how is the timing of each advert worked out? Impossible to target the correct person.

Let me be clearer. This is already happening, in many ways. On petrol forecourts the 'prying' has been occurring for years ... as a way of limiting fuel thefts. If you don't drive that's hardly going to affect you, is it ?!
This just takes it to another level.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

My strategy of dealing with them involves avoidance as a rule, however individually tailored takes this to a new level in my opinion.

I don't mind CCTV and surveillance for protecting people, reducing crime and detecting offenders etc but when its used purely for profit and further lining the pockets of those all ready fat tw@ts then this is a step too far.bobo the clown wrote:I didn't realise what I had said was complicated.jaffka wrote:I think you will find that Bobo is actually agreeing in essence with the point you have made.bwfcdan94 wrote:I don't drive that is me 1 - 0 supermarkets. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I know he is I am just making the point that as I don't drive that means I have a slightly better chance of my supermarket not knowing every little detail about me I mean it not just what your thinking off on paper, it s what they can do with that information it what they can work out from it. I would guarantee that supermarkets know more about you then your friends do, maybe even more about you then your partner knows about you. Just think when you buy all of your shopping on clubcard or through a supermarkets website they can work out:
1. What you eat/ drink every day
2. how many people are in your family what they eat and drink, how old they are, what sex they are 3.where you go/ what you do everyday (if your buying sandwiches the chances are you are taking them to work, if you buy alcohol then you probably stay at home rather than going out on the p*SS at weekends)
4.What your family does everyday(based on what your wife/partner buys they can work out whether she works or not)
And then there is the ones that you might find a bit more worrying
5.If your buying condoms, they can work out how often you are having sex every week
6. If your wife/partner is buying sanitary towels on a particular week in a month they can work out when her period is
7. From you and you families diet they can work out future health problems
8.From what medication you buy they can work out what illnesses you have/ how often and when your family gets unwell
9. from what you buy at Christmas they can again work out whether your at home art Christmas or any other time of year for that matter and thus can work out when your on holiday
All this information can and is used to sell allsorts to you and refer you to all sorts of businesses (this is probably how the majority of you information and data gets out to other businesses and why you get called by telemarketing companies wanting to sell you diet pills because your wife has stopped buying the chocolate biscuits and started buying Riveta instead), you will be referred to businesses looking to make money from the state of your health even!
So yeah I do find how much we are under surveillance worrying especially by our supermarkets . They can literally pin point nearly everything that goes on in your families lives.
This is why supermarkets set up clubcard schemes and give you special offers, they want to learn everything about you so they in coalition with businesses in every little sector of life can target you personally to sell products.

Relax... Nobody is going to bother to sit down and work out individually what you do or do not do... I know for example more about you than the list you outlined above, and you gave it all to me voluntarily. Am I bombarding you with adverts for second hand Blakeman shirts at 4:30 in the morning?

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I nipped into Morrisons today and used their toilets without buying anything. Do you think they got me on camara? Wife shops there sometimes so I suppose they already know how many toilet rolls we use at our house anyway but they might think I'm trying to confuse them by using theirs. If I was on camera, bet I did confuse them by doing the green-apple two step going in, and the sergeant major's march coming out..

Shirley targeted adverts are the best kind? I don't need to be bombarded with ads for Tena Lady thank you very much but I'm fine with finding out that Tesco have Strongbow on special offer.

I also assume that, as they won't be wishing to piss off their customers, there'll be an opt-out system offered. Really an argument about nothing to these old eyes.

I think that you are totally underestimating the effect on the population that this will have. This will be the final straw and we shall have anarchy on the streets.bobo the clown wrote:I also assume that, as they won't be wishing to piss off their customers, there'll be an opt-out system offered. Just one question left and that is whose side are you on? The side smashing the windows or the side stopping them...big decisions to be made.

No decision whatsoever, I'll be watching the window smashers, tutting rather a lot and picking up the pieces afterwards, untroubled and at ease with myself while you guys nurse swollen heads, police records and realise some time later that it simply didn't matter all that much.jaffka wrote:I think that you are totally underestimating the effect on the population that this will have. What about the people who will say afterwards "yeah but I mez got meself a new t.v innit". While were on this topic I don't know if anyone new this but before the Tottenham riots of a couple of years ago there used to be bits of artworks of children tossing around basketballs and footballs on the High road, after the riots somebody drew plasma screen televisions over the top of the balls which did make me chuckle a bit.bobo the clown wrote:No decision whatsoever, I'll be watching the window smashers, tutting rather a lot and picking up the pieces afterwards, untroubled and at ease with myself while you guys nurse swollen heads, police records and realise some time later that it simply didn't matter all that much.jaffka wrote:I think that you are totally underestimating the effect on the population that this will have. So actually the solution to all of this is that we just convert to Muslims and start wearing burkhas.
