I think the Police thing is a little different. There you have 3 individuals of relatively low rank who tried to involve themselves in politics. Stupidly, they never even considered that the conversation might have been recorded. What is now happening is the ConDems using it for 2 reasons, 1. To attack the Police and counter criticisms that they have cut budgets too far - thereby allowing themselves at election time to blame any rise in crime on an inefficient and badly led Police service and 2. As long as this stays in the public eye, the focus is off the NHS and in particular A&E, where a growing crisis is about to cause a massive implosion of the system.

Both will be used to counter any claim for pay increases in the public sector and to allow them to take on and defeat the Fire Brigade Union who they have already managed to paint as the bad guys in an escalating dispute.

Bloody morons with cars  Where I live the villas are clustered together in a sort of semi circle. This means you pull off the road and there is a little island thing that you can park alongside if you're visiting someone and their garage is full. This works really well as it is easy to get round these parked cars and also means we can reverse out of our garage easily. The problem is only about 1% of the population have anything approaching a brain. Fewer still know how to make use of the bloody thing. I'm pissed off with them parking/abandoning cars and blocking just about everyone in. It is much fun when someone has a party and they block the road as well. Here is one such moron, though to be fair he's left just about enough room for me to get out of the garage, though still shit parking

The FBU have been overrun by politicised wankers since 1975. They ARE the bad guys.

The 3 'individuals of low rank' are all highly active Police Fed rep's. They knew ... & know ... exactly what they were up to and had no thought it'd come off the rails. They directly lied with the intent of having a Cabinet Minister they didn't like get dismissed. They went on to maintain that falsehood to a Parliamentary Committee. It remains to be seen how directly that may have been tied-in with the Downing Street nonsense. Either way it's false testimony and conspiracy. They should be jailed for it.

Unite, and their leverage campaigns, one of which I have personal experience of, is another scale again.

I don't have a problem with unions in theory, just a strong disdain for many of the self-interested lot who run them. i'm embarrassed as a teacher by some of the rubbish the teaching unions come out with. There are many good points to make about the complete nob that is Gove but they seems to manage to shoot themselves in the foot on a regular basis.
As for the likes of McCluskey and Crow, they make my blood boil. But members put up with them because of the one over-riding human incentive, self-interest.

Taken from balcony above the garage at the front of the house. So, from upstairs.

I have no issue with any of the above Bobo, particularly as someone who has been the victim if union intimidation. The FBU deserve slotting as do the Fed reps. I'm fairly confident both will as part of a larger political game.

it's a very interesting issue that I think will have repercussions for a wee while to come...

if I have it right (and it might be i don't as I have only heard the headlines without investigating in depth) - we are (or rather BAE is) mothballing/binning-off portsmouth in favour of scottish yards...

IF the scots referendum goes in favour of independence - then we will be in hoc to a foreign country for the building of our navy ships... surely that's not great...

either way it'd be a tough call however the tories were involved - and however much this is presented as a practical BAE decision - there MUST have been input from the government...

losing jobs in their southern heartland in favour of scotland - not a good electoral strategy
outsourcing our navy ships (potentially) to a foreign power - not great electorally

Interestingly all the talk of crisis at A&E is making me more likely to think twice before attending, which is exactly what's required of the public!

Well, to be fair to them, the banks didn't ever arrange Undertakers to call round at my house, nor have several take-aways I'd not ordered be delivered, nor call me house phone every 15m from 2am-4am for a week, nor puncture two tyres on my sons car.

But hey ... it's all 'leverage' isn't it !?

I don't doubt you have reasons not to like the Trades Unions and accept that without reservation. :D

I could argue that you have probably got bugged by PPI sales calls (although possibly not at 2-4am), courtesy of the banking profession.

Is the issue with these police officers that they're arseholes because they are Trades Unionists, or arseholes because they're arseholes, who happen to be Trades Unionists? See, I know plenty of arseholes who are Managers and Directors that pull all sorts of stunts towards their fellow men too, many of them entirely reprehensible - I generally put that down to them being arseholes rather that "because they're a Director"...

Of course the Fed reps could be influenced by the fact that they are police officers and work in an atmosphere of closing ranks and lying to cover each other's backs and generally getting away with it. Being Fed reps probably makes them feel even more untouchable than their colleagues.

Brucie joining Bobo, to defend the right of the free! Shocker.
