Re: What are you watching tonight?
Yeah such a good film. It's always a subject that fascinates me, like the holocaust - you just can't believe these things went on in the lifetimes of people we still walk amongst. Them nuns were maniacs, absolute maniacs.William the White wrote:Went to see Philomena at Cineworld... Once i manged to separate Coogan from Partridge, which isn't easy, I realised I was watching a very, very good film. any graced by Judi Dench will l;ave something good in it.
What has become a familiar, but still horrifying, story of Irish Catholicism's barbarity and heartless cover-ups, its cruelties, its lies, its disgrace is the heart of this movie, whose protagonist copes with the agony of her illegitimate baby being sold (in 1952) to American adoptive parents, and her search for him with the aid of disgraced political commentator-turned spin doctor, Martin Sixsmith (Coogan)...
Funnily enough I've just bee watching Peter Mullan's The Magdalene Sisters, another of the same genre. Brutal and shocking stuff.

Never been to Seaworld, but vowed never to do so after watching Blackfish.
On a separate note, I concluded the latest series of Boardwalk Empire this morning. Sensational programme, but a devastating ending. I was sat there genuinely gutted, and gutted that another of my favourite shows has finished for the foreseeable.

You know, it never quite got there for me - I gave it up about halfway through season 2...General Mannerheim wrote:Never been to Seaworld, but vowed never to do so after watching Blackfish.

Mad Men I lasted only a few eps...
I knew they were both quality TV drama, but I never got the burn with either of them...
Haven't even started on Breaking Bad yet...

Boardwalk Empire is the one reason I miss Sky. Loved the first three series seasons but haven't seen any of this last one. Is it available on Netflix? If so there's good reason in itself to sign up.

Unfortunately, you don't get any HBO shows on Netflix.clapton is god wrote:Ta. Feelings for Netflix in general (with a small 'g')? There's bugger all information about what's available on their website.Beefheart wrote:Unfortunately, you don't get any HBO shows on Netflix.clapton is god wrote:Ta. Interesting that.clapton is god wrote:Feelings for Netflix in general (with a small 'g')? There's bugger all information about what's available on their website.Beefheart wrote:Unfortunately, you don't get any HBO shows on Netflix.
I've dillied and dallied for over a year about whether to sign up to one of the providers, and if so which one.
I always bottle it when push comes to shove because they are all so flaky about what's provided and what the real activity costs are. Stuff like "no HBO content on Netflix" is never made plain (even by the competitors ... or HBO even, I do get why Netflix wouldn't say it !!).
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
There's still a lot on there and at £5.99 p/m I'd definitely recommend it. They do some to bulk it out a bit with stuff that is free to watch on iplayer or 4od though.bobo the clown wrote:Interesting that.clapton is god wrote:Feelings for Netflix in general (with a small 'g')? Edit: I think you can get a month's free trial so you could see if there's enough on there you'd want to watch.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Thanks ... & is Netflix clearly the leader of the pack ??
Maybe I'm cynical but "month's free trials" normally require you to sell your first born and later sleep with Fat Frank to actually untie yourself.

There is an auto-renewal but I seem to remember it was quite easy to turn off when I did it.bobo the clown wrote:Thanks ... & is Netflix clearly the leader of the pack ??

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Has anyone seen Blackfish yet?
I'm not an animal lover by any means but I also don't like to see animal cruelty too.
It's the story of SeaWorld and it's farming and trade in basically of Killer Whales.
When we were happy years ago we went to SeaWorld and I remember at the time saying to Barb that I felt uneasy watching these massive mammals swimming in endless circles in tiny pools when they should be out in the open getting harpooned by Japanese trawler fishermen.
The cover up over numerous trainer fatalities is shocking and while I normally have a good old chuckle when I read about some dick head who owns a tiger or boa constrictor getting snuffed watching these people get eaten, drowned and toyed with really stopped me in my tracks.
I've always enjoyed going to the zoo and the local safari park but when you see big cats, bears, monkeys and what not displaying what, to my eye looks like mentally unnatural behaviour it's hard to justify their existance.
If you've not seen it then I strongly urge you to do so. It was on BBC4 last night, probably iplayable and if, like me you can't abide the thought of watching Duncan Norvelle eating handfuls of maggots to win the approval of two Geordie wankers then I think you'll go a long way to beat this documentary. Five Stars!

I'm not asking you to 'think outside the box' I just wish you'd have a rummage around in it once in a while.

its is, dead easy - ive turned mine off before when id run out of stuff to watch then fired it back up a few months later.Beefheart wrote:There is an auto-renewal but I seem to remember it was quite easy to turn off when I did it.bobo the clown wrote:Thanks ... & is Netflix clearly the leader of the pack ??

re Clapton remark about infomation, i agree, Ive said before, a brilliant idea for an App would be one where you enter the name of a film, then the app fires up a list of all available options there are to see it.
PULP FICTION:
Netflix (subscrioption)
Itunes £7.99 buy
Sky Movies Thursday 19th Dec, 11pm
MARY POPPINS:
Lovefilm (subs)
Itunes £3.49 rent
Blinkbox £5.00
Channel 4, 25th December, 2pm
etc ?

Just looked and this website lets you know everything that's avaliable on Netflix, and appears to be updated daily.General Mannerheim wrote:its is, dead easy - ive turned mine off before when id run out of stuff to watch then fired it back up a few months later.Beefheart wrote:There is an auto-renewal but I seem to remember it was quite easy to turn off when I did it.bobo the clown wrote:Thanks ... & is Netflix clearly the leader of the pack ??

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Wow. I don't know what I was looking at but I did a quick scan for Blackfish and must have either been looking in 'What are you eating tonight' or 'Megson Out'. Apologies, mind you it's me that looks like a knobber so I don't know why I'm apologising.
On the subject of Gary That singing with Meerkats I couldn't believe my mince pies when I saw that.
Not that I give a monkey's cuss about what Gary That does with his time but when there's not a single shred of self-awareness or humour in his face it's hard not to feel that somehow, even though I've never bought one of his songs I've been let down.
I don't know why adverts are now getting their own little introductions and teasers - the world has gone mad.
If you're looking for how to sing along with puppets then, and I'm sure this has been mentioned on here - or at least it should have then may I suggest you down load a youtube of The Muppets Movie and watch the big opening song or the 'Am I a Man or a Muppet' song. That goes for you Peter Kay when you do taht Geraldine shite and say 'Because we do it straight it's funny' no, the way the muppets do 'straight' is funny. Your straight is just straight.
So in short.
Go Wales!

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Talking of adverts I'm getting sick of whiny covers of old songs everytime I watch TV. They are everywhere now. About time the ad lot had a bit of originality instead of just copying each other. I blame John Lewis.
