still a hilarious programme tho! down to frankie.
Watching the repeat now. Outstanding. Still Brooker's programme.

The more I see of Frankie Boyle, the more respect I have for him. He knows exactly what he's there for - give a funny, one liner designed to upset someone, without stepping on the toes of the format or the presenter.

Exactly, he can't carry a show, and that's what I worried about t'other night, that it would all become about him, but he has the restraint to know when and how to unleash his filthy goodness.

Mock the Week on iPlayer. Is it just me who is a little bit in love with Lucy Porter? She has just revealed she lives in Kentish Town, like me. Bad move Lucy, bad move.

Good Lord, no. She'd be even more attractive if she were funny...

Spent Friday night watching the almost unbelievably bad The Happening, the latest effort by M Night Shyamalan, of Sixth Sense fame and everything else infamy. So terribly scripted and acted that it was actually enjoyable in an entirely unintentional way. Then from one of the worst films I've ever seen to one of the worst documentaries, The Death of Respect: badly thought out, badly written, badly presented and badly in need of an original idea. But we enjoyed it together, so that's OK.

Proper good stuff? Mock the Week was superb again; I watched it twice, once solo and then again last night with Mrs B, and even knowing the jokes in advance doesn't hinder the power of Boyle's delivery or the thoughtfulness of Russell Howard's (not sure why many, including our own Mof Gimmers, dislike him so much). Also watched the first couple of episodes of True Blood, the new thing from Alan Ball (he of American Beauty and Six Feet Under, not Pompey and Southampton) in which vampires live 'overground' in society drinking synthetic blood, if mistrusted by the majority of mortals. Many excuses for graphic sex scenes and the oppressed-minority theme - it's set in the steamy Deep South - might come into its own.

Indeed. I looked in on mock the week following Pru's link. She didn't open her grid until about 10 minutes in. I want that job.

What you mean is all her attempts at humorous commentary before 10 minutes had been edited out.

Well, quite, but I don't think I could take that.

I too am puzzled by the level of venom some people reserve for Mr Howard, I have two or three friends who absolutely hate him. I think he's brilliant, but even if you don't I can't see why people would hate him. Very underrated is his radio show partner, Jon Richardson, who was on Michael McIntyre's whatsit, and has some grainy mobile phone youtube clips.

What did peope think of said roadshow? Too ambitious with too many people in not enough time for me, though there were some brilliant bits.

I thought it was tremendous. Opened my eyes to a couple of comedians wouldn't have normally seen, plus another opportunity to watch Jason Manford do his "fat Michael Owen" bit again.

Two comedians on there that stood out, yet whose names I can't remember, were both on the Manchester leg - the Scouser that opened, plus an older comedian from Oldham who looked like Derek Smalls from Spinal Tap.

Plus Michael McIntyre is improving each time I see him, mainly because I'm actually listening to him rather than getting annoyed by his demeanour - it's easy to mistake his boundless enthusiasm for incessant smugness, which never endears.

Aye I really didn't like him when I first saw him, as you say his demeanour can be misleading at first. He is fantastic though, better and better. Obviously it was a great idea, an oppurtunity for newer comedians instead of the established group but ten or so minutes isn't really enough. People like Rhod Gilbert, who is fantastic the times I've seen more of him underwhelmed a bit, due, I think, to the time constraints.

John Bishop is your scouser, he was ace.
