Actually, I've never seen one of them, and it's a bloody good idea coz you always know which egg to use next. I'm forever having to rearrange the eggs in the fridge so the freshest are towards the back, ever since I poached a really really rotten one.
Not just rotation, I don't keep eggs in the fridge anyhow. LK once imparted the wisdom as to why, I followed his advice, and he wasn't wrong either. Se theyer. ;)

Edit: Ah, I see he has again.
You still can't poach an egg for shit though.

Ps I'm with you Bob. Asolutely munting and thick as pigshit.

All together now, a groan for Bruce: Ready, set, GROAAAAAN!

Yes, Monty, eggs at my place have always been stored in the refrigerator. Likewise at both my wife's and my parents' homes. I have never questioned the practice and have just assumed that that's the best way to keep them.

My wife was out but she has just returned. The question has been put but the answer was just as I thought - she doesn't really know. Many fridges here are sold with an egg container included, but not all of them. So that doesn't help. Some supermarkets, generally air-conditioned, put eggs on normal shelves whilst others put them in the 'cool' area. So that doesn't help either. You have me intrigued now. This afternoon I shall endeavour to remember (I have a bit of car fettling on the agenda) to do of bit of Internet searching.

This morning I've been bent over and given a stiff rodgering by the taxman. It's not in the angry thread as I suppose if I owe it, I owe it. He is though, still a complete bastard (Even though the lady on the phone was very pleasant)

I did my tax form earlier this week too. Nothing I wasn't expecting - but the last two years, I've managed to do the thing on receipt of my P60, as opposed to leaving it until the Jan "Do it now or we'll fine you" deadline. Has the obvious benefit of being able to send any overpayments back to you quickly and/or recover any underpayments through this year's tax code. :D

Thanks to Bish  I'm now off self assesment, but my tax code has been dropped to almost zero to sort out an underpayment the year before last. Gutted!

Ahh - I told them in August I'd need to pay rather more, so they started recovering it in Sept.

No chance of getting off SA... :-(

I had to give the taxmen (federal and provincial) around $10,000 on April 30th. From what I read above people seem to complain when this happens. Not me. It means I have had an average of $5000 invested at 8% p.a. for an average of six months. This means I have $400 that the government would have got if it was deducted at source (mind you they would not have invested it prudently but blown it on some junket).

If I send you a bundle of notes can you invest it in a Canadian bank for me. I'm struggling to find banks that don't want me to give them money, never mind give me any interest.

In 2012. This years so far my investments have yielded 4.1%, which annualizes to about 12.5%. Of course, it won't last and I expect to drop back to around 8%.

Serious question. Are you shocked because this was good or bad?

Ah, forget my previous serious question. The banks here would only give 1.5-3% on savings accounts. My money is invested in (fairly conservative) mutual funds. Rate of Return varies - 2004 12%, 2005 15%, 2006 11%, 2007 9%, 2008 -25%, 2009 12%, 2010 14%, 2011 0%, 2012 8.9%. So there is an element of swings and roundabouts.

I presume you could get similar returns with a competent financial advisor - so why put more that absolutely necessary in the bank?

Today I'm BOTH angry and happy about the weather. Happy coz it's been glorious; angry at being a pasty white-boy who is now sunburnt to f*ck. Wooorth iiit. I'll be able to find my home at night anyway, although passing traffic might screech to a halt.

Put my feckin lower back out again. My comment that the pain must be worse than childbirth was the cause of much debate in the office. Jeez, some women bite easily.

oh aye!! it is well known that the pain of childbirth is as nothing compared to the trapping of the todger in the zipper - and there is no gas and air or pethadine available for such situations!!
