I would suggest we just witnessed the start of that process a couple of weeks ago.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Indeed it is, but the rules as they were written were clear enough. If there is no vacancy, potential challengers require nominations but the incumbent doesn't.KeyserSoze wrote:So the Labour Party will solely be a mainly 20th century phenomenon, then.
This is sad.
The NEC have now announced that to be eligible to vote in the leadership election, you either have to have been a member for at least six months or register as a supporter by paying a one-off £25 payment early next week. That might not survive a legal challenge.

Yeah i don't think we've heard the last about the vote eligibility - essentially new members could end up forking out 50 quid to vote while registered supporters pay 25. That that is the least shambolic aspect of Labour atm says things.
The prospect of Corbyn leading Labour into a GE with a PLP that openly have no confidence in him makes me wince.

Absolutely no idea, mate. I mean, I've precious little interest in the Labour leadership carry-on, but that one seemed obvious enough to me.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:So why couldn't she say so? On a completely different note, if I worked in the NHS I reckon I'd be pretty fecking miffed to see Jeremy Hunt sporting an NHS lapel badge whilst being interviewed ont' news.

He may well have meant 'bye' to the Labour party, maybe?thebish wrote:no - I mean you've said bye to this part of the forum before - many times! i don't remember you predicting a coup attempt...
as for keir - snot too late!
To be fair I think many folk, myself included, could happily line up behind quite a few of Labours traditional polices, it's the spilt what does for that support.
When the nutcase left and commies got put into the box, all looked well, then up popped Blair and dragged the party too far right of centre when reasonable social polices, argued well instead of pushing the party into the hands of bankers, courting Murdoch (and rumoured his missis) would have done the trick.
Brown merely carried on in this vein, you would have thought a lesson had been learned about raiding pension funds after Maxwell (I discount Miliband as a huge cock up).
Thus we end up with Corbyn, a man who shows so much 'passion' and lets face it, that's what people want to see in his attacks on a PM in Cameron who set himself up many a time for a good roasting, yet he failed miserably, now he has not got the grace to realise "and now the end is near and so I face the final curtain".
Unfortunately for Labour, the 'moderates' have apart from the odd MP little alternatives, there is but a fag paper between them and the middle of the road Tories, they really need to sell the electorate a modern day socialism, not one of the bottom feeders being represented by nothing short of bloody thugs in the old Union style and anyone with anything is the enemy.
Labour, if Corbyn wins will be fcuked for years, May just might, next May, if she is clever, settled and Europe negotiations going okay, just go for it.
(I'd keep my eye on that bloke who bank rolled UKIP with a Corbyn victory)

He's probably got a 2nd badge with 'privatise' on it that he wears next to the NHS one around the office! Him and Gove are amongst the most twatable MPs around. I don't normally get involved with that sort of thing, but I'd make an exception for them 2 wankers.Bruce Rioja wrote:

Labour have been a shambles since Ed won instead of his brother. Run by amateurs with people playing at politics.
The people that voted Corbyn in are the ones that piss and moan about Tory policy. Well I hope they enjoy the next two decades. They only have themselves to blame.

Disagree, were the current Labour party faced with the unprecedented economic crisis Brown's Labour had to deal with they'd have curled up into a ball and sobbed themselves to sleep.thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Labour have been a shambles since Ed won instead of his brother. Brown's electoral performance in 2010 will seem like an absolute dream now. Despite basically the conditions being incredibly more favourable now.
I mean as a Labour voter I could honestly say Labour are in any fit state to run a bath let alone the country. It is the worst I can remember the Labour party in a very, very, very long time. A dodgy war is fecking nothing compared to the swivel eyed loons knocking round it now.

As the leader of the incumbent party after 13 years in office and in the midst of a financial crisis Gordon Brown managed to get 29% of the vote at the 2010 General Electionthebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Labour have been a shambles since Ed won instead of his brother. 6 years into coalition/Tory government and austerity and as the opposition, Jeremy Corbyn is currently polling at...30%.
If Brown was a shambles as leader, which I'd agree he largely was, he was still nowhere near as incompetent as Corbyn. The answer to the failings of Brown and Miliband aren't to be deliberately shit and to not actually try and win an election as long as the £3 Trots are kept happy, which seems to be the plan at present.

Precisely. And I confidently predict Corbyn would poll well below 29% in an actual GE. Well below.Beefheart wrote:As the leader of the incumbent party after 13 years in office and in the midst of a financial crisis Gordon Brown managed to get 29% of the vote at the 2010 General Electionthebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Labour have been a shambles since Ed won instead of his brother. i don't argue that it isn't worse - merely with the idea that it STARTED with Ed Milliband - that's bollox - it started well before that!Prufrock wrote:Exacto-f*cking-mundo.Beefheart wrote:As the leader of the incumbent party after 13 years in office and in the midst of a financial crisis Gordon Brown managed to get 29% of the vote at the 2010 General Electionthebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:Labour have been a shambles since Ed won instead of his brother. And Douglas-Home, Balfour, Asquith, Badlwin...i think it's something like of the PMs since 1900 were 'unelected', so to speak.

Boris Johnson as foreign secretary. Not sure whether to laugh or cry. Probably both.
