I kind of assume that the usual kebab shoppers up there may have put pay to it. If you're interested though Bruce, there is still a cafe Istanbul in Manchester (on bridge street), it's not too bad for a posh kebab

I do hear it's good but my very lovely friend was too intent on showing me the cheese shop and DemiJohn that we walked straight past it.Little Green Man wrote:Don't encourage them - it's bad enough when then all trog up in August.communistworkethic wrote:I would recommed Maison Bleue on Victoria St, heading down George VI Bridge towards Grassmarket for anyone venturing to Edinburgh.
Anyway, The Grain Store next to it is supposed to be better.
Embra was a bit full of tourists at the weekend, hen-dos, stag-dos and rugby tours, it really does make the place unbearable.

Thank-you, DLH. I was beginning to think that I'd dreamt the whole thing up, belly dancers and all.David Lee's Hair wrote:Used to be Cafe Istanbul.

I only went once but it was pretty good and I was quite put out to see that it had disappeared.
Does anyone know of any decent Greek restaurants in the area? The only good one that I know is in Harrogate, which is hardly handy.
May the bridges I burn light your way

I was in Zwolle and then Maastricht about six weeks ago. Next time, with a little better planning........mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:There's a decent one out here in Utrecht next time you're passing! I'm in the big doghouse right now.
Daughter and son-in-law want us to go to the Carvery that used to be the Wategate off Plodder lane for a lunch/tea. Wonderful, no problem, except it's on the coming Sunday. I draw a veil over the slight differences of opinions on priorities currently under dicussion at Meson Tango. It aint pretty. The dog seems to be on my side as he hates being left out of things
