Re: What are you watching tonight?
We watched Hannah Arendt (German, English, Yiddish).
An extraordinary film about an extraordinary woman. She was the philosopher who coined the phrase 'the banality of evil' to describe Eichmann performance at his trial. And whose criticism of Jewish elders' collaboration with the Nazis led to outrage - which she courageously faced down, to her great cost.
This is cinema of ideas, of debate. We found it totally gripping.

Just watched FIFA World Cup 2010, documentary on BBC2. Behind the scenes look with lots of interviews with players, organisers, managers, Howard Webb etc. Well worth a look on catch up if you've an hour to spare.
Anyone who says the national team is less important than club, only needs to listen to Iniesta and Puyol etc.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I watched 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes' last night. It was pretty stupid, someone even said at one point 'I love Chimpanzee's but most people are scared of them'. Who?! I've never met anyone scared of Chimps! And there was such a stereotypical businessman that if you changed every one of his lines to him just saying the word 'profit' it wouldn't make a difference. Not bad overall though. 3 1/2 stars.

Off to watch Boyhood at the Cornerhouse after work, never been there before but it seems that Boyhood isn't showing anywhere in Bolton yet.

"The £15 billion Railway" ... the building of Crossrail.
Bloody Hell.
Bloody Hell.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Biffy Clyro. Could ever a band be better described as being average? Oh, hang on, here come the Kaiser Chiefs. ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

The biggest sell out ever.Bruce Rioja wrote:Biffy Clyro. Could ever a band be better described as being average? Oh, hang on, here come the Kaiser Chiefs.
The year after Rage Against the Machine got the Xmas number 1 protest vote, Biffy (or their managers) licensed out their song to be the X Factor single. It was not only awful, but it was cringeworthily sanitised with the intrinsically inappropriate song 'Many of Horror' having it's name changed to 'When We Collide' (the first line of the chorus). So Biffy get royalties for the X Factor single. They then also got royalties from the counter campaign, in the vein of the Rage effort, to make their original single the 'Counter' number 1. So if you bought the X Factor single, Biffy got paid; if you went renegade and bought the actual version, Biffy also got paid. This set against one of the most banal, awful albums ever produced, which they swiftly followed with a shitter double album.
But, as the saying goes, you can't sell out if you never bought in. To describe them as average is to completely miss the first ten years. Puzzle is, in my opinion, the greatest hardcore crossover album there has ever been. You can't listen to Blackened Sky, The Vertigo of Bliss, or particularly (good or bad) Infinity Land and describe any as 'average'. I don't think, as much as we do share tastes in certain areas, that any or your cup of tea, but none are average.
There are so many brilliantly simple simple singles form the early days, and then screechy brilliance in the middle but you can't describe anything up to and including Puzzle as average IMO.
(It's not 'average').
