I think it carries extra weight for those who have children of their own, or are closer in age to the protagonist but there are just a lot of moments of seemingly effortless profundity. As is often the case with a Linklater film there is little in way of plot and what you don't see between each summer tells a lot of the story, but he more than makes up for it with the 'feel' of the film in my opinion.Prufrock wrote:Going to try to go in the week. Definitely makes me want to road trip around Texas, and listen to all those american pop punk bands I was into in the early noughties.

Heat.
Didn't quite live up to the hype, IMO, but that scene in the cafe, wow!

Loving Mad Men. I wish I could be a 60's advertising executive so I could spend my days drinking scotch and treating women badly.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I started watching Boardwalk Empire twice and really liked it but gave up on both occassions for some reason.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Got just two episodes left to watch from the first three series. Next one up is the famous Red Wedding ep, and then just one more until February when S4 becomes available on BluRay (much rather do it that way than stream it).clapton is god wrote:Thought it time I got on this so I bought it all from Tesco yesterday Two eps in and so far so good.LeverEnd wrote:Read an article where he said stop moaning about the killings of major characters because they were all flawed and deserved it. Although when its done, i'll be crying out for Season 5 to start
Looking forward to it.
Happy to see that series five and six have been commissioned by HBO.
I do believe that The Sopranos has finally been knocked off its perch.

Naaah. I like GoT, I do, but it's not in the same league as The Sops or The Wire.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I always have massive love for the show I'm currently involved in, especially when binging, im convinced it's the best tv ever.
But when you run out of episodes and have time to reflect on the program as a whole, you realise Sops is still king!
That's what find anyway.

Re: What are you watching tonight?
What a curiously long-winded defence!?Prufrock wrote:The biggest sell out ever.Bruce Rioja wrote:Biffy Clyro. Could ever a band be better described as being average? Oh, hang on, here come the Kaiser Chiefs.
The year after Rage Against the Machine got the Xmas number 1 protest vote, Biffy (or their managers) licensed out their song to be the X Factor single. It was not only awful, but it was cringeworthily sanitised with the intrinsically inappropriate song 'Many of Horror' having it's name changed to 'When We Collide' (the first line of the chorus). So Biffy get royalties for the X Factor single. They then also got royalties from the counter campaign, in the vein of the Rage effort, to make their original single the 'Counter' number 1. So if you bought the X Factor single, Biffy got paid; if you went renegade and bought the actual version, Biffy also got paid. This set against one of the most banal, awful albums ever produced, which they swiftly followed with a shitter double album.
But, as the saying goes, you can't sell out if you never bought in. To describe them as average is to completely miss the first ten years. Puzzle is, in my opinion, the greatest hardcore crossover album there has ever been. You can't listen to Blackened Sky, The Vertigo of Bliss, or particularly (good or bad) Infinity Land and describe any as 'average'. I don't think, as much as we do share tastes in certain areas, that any or your cup of tea, but none are average.
There are so many brilliantly simple simple singles form the early days, and then screechy brilliance in the middle but you can't describe anything up to and including Puzzle as average IMO.
(It's not 'average').
Mate, if a band strike me as being bang average then you can say what you want about them. I won't be wasting a single second checking out their back catalogue.

Each to their own but there are plenty bands I like who've done shit albums.

Exactly. Excessive in the extreme. Quantity does not a quality point prove.Prufrock wrote:Three paragraphs and three YouTube links

Re: What are you watching tonight?
I thought I was good at hyperbole. 'Excessive in the extreme'?
I wasn't trying to prove a point, I was offering a counter view. Unless I've completely misunderstood the concept of a question, I'm not entirely sure what you were expecting to happen?

They were supporting Linkin Park when I first came across them with words along the lines of "What's this shit? I'm off to the bar."Bruce Rioja wrote:Exactly. Excessive in the extreme. Quantity does not a quality point prove.Prufrock wrote:Three paragraphs and three YouTube links
You'd have to do a pretty good next album, to get a draw from there...
