Only a ginger can get sunburn at feckin' Easter in the north west!
Mind you, got sunburn once watching wish you were here!

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
not so much angry as depressed. We walked today from Hotel St to Great moor St. In the 200 yard stretch of Newport St there were four pawnshops, three pound shops, four charity shops, two bookies and two gambling slots places.
This used to be a main shopping street in the centre. It's unbearable. The market is still good, but the rest is appalling...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Today I am exceptionally angry at our football club and in particular Bolton Central, for some reason they decided not to start selling tickets to non members until today. To make matters worse I called them 7 times today being left with "the Wanderer playing in my ear on 7 occasions, each call of which lasted 3 minutes without anybody picking up the phone. On the 8th attempt I got through to them but of course it was to late to make todays post meaning the tickets wont be put in the post till tomorrow meaning it is quite possible they wont arrive in time for when I leave for the game on Saturday morning.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Did I mention calls cost 5p a minute so I was charged £1.20 for the privilege of them not bothering answering the phone. I wouldn't be surprised if they have been instructed not to answer the phone in order to make money.

Not got the details, wife's just told me, but apparently some cretins have set fire to stables at (she thinks) Sharples. There were two horses inside that burned to death. What needs doing to the arsonists can't be put in print.

Prostate cancer.
Just found out a guy I was friendly with at the running club has died, suddenly. I say friendly with as we weren't friends outside the club but we shared a few runs and laughs together over the last couple of years.
Turns out he had had prostate cancer a couple of years ago. Not sure if this is related to his death or whether it's something else but I'm just fecked off with the wrong people being taken too young.
RIP Joe.

This is not much help but prostate cancer need not be a killer if caught early enough. I have the simple test every year (PSA test on the blood they take from my arm). Now my doctor says at my age I should also have a colonoscopy - I'll do it but I'm not looking forward as it is a nasty 24 hours but it is only once a decade. As you age it is important to have these common tests done. A friend had prostate cancer and didn't know it - showed up on his routine blood test and the operation was completely successful.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Sorry to hear that GtE. Generally considered to be one of the more treatable forms of cancer, but some get a more aggressive form and are unlucky. My Dad has had it for 17 years, got it at 52 when he was in great shape, looked 10 years younger and had just run his 5th marathon. His op was not successful unfortunately, but he does ok on the treatment. Can hit anyone, always worth getting checked out no matter how trivial you think a symptom seems. reminds me I'm due another PSA test, more for Dad's peace of mind than mine.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Sad, Gary.Gary the Enfield wrote:Prostate cancer.

I really understand Gary's feelings about the 'wrong people' leaving this world because of this vile disease...
It's caused more than enough tears amongst my family and friends... It needs defeating...
A huge, coordinated international cooperation, free of the competitive self interest of drug companies, with the outstanding research scientists of the world engaged and focussed and funded would be my advocacy...

Despite the prevalence of prostate cancer, many times more money is spent on research on breast cancer (which is only a little more common). Defeating it would mean re-channeling available research funds in a more balanced fashion. This might cause an outcry.William the White wrote:I really understand Gary's feelings about the 'wrong people' leaving this world because of this vile disease...

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Then there are bowel, stomach, ovarian, skin, eye, testicular, lung, mouth, throat, tongue, liver, pancreatic . . . cancers. A very good friend who died a few months ago had some form of spinal cancer; it was very aggressive as from diagnosis (which took some time) to his death was but a few months. Prior to the onset of the disease (if that's really the right term) he was a very active man. Some might say that he had 'a good innings' at seventy five but he was a terrific fellow with so much more to give.
From my reading over the years it appears that most cancers are different in that they respond or refuse to respond to various therapies. As far as research goes I understand that there are many programmes under way to find a key to this problem. Some of them are funded by government grants, others are funded by philanthropists and yet others by investors in commercial enterprises. It's such a fragmented field of research that it's difficult to moralise about who does what and why they do it.

Thanks for the link, Bish. I managed to answer all five questions incorrectly. Subsequently I've signed up in a bid to rectify my ignorance.

I got 4 out of 5. Got the size wrong - they were asking about the average, but I picked mine! It does enlarge as you grow older, which is why we elderly get up in the night.Bruce Rioja wrote:Thanks for the link, Bish. I managed to answer all five questions incorrectly. Hmm. I get up at 3;30 every morning for a piss. Are you saying that this is age or prostrate related, or both?Montreal Wanderer wrote:I got 4 out of 5.
