No you're just being stupid.thebish wrote:10 metres early? 10 miles early?? did you miss the runway?bobo the clown wrote:Well, I flew out of Croatia today (a lot of pissed up hotel staff this morning who'd simply not bothered going to bed) .... we came over Italy, Germany, Belgium and we set out on the dot and landed 10m early.Worthy4England wrote:Yeah but.
If they've had to divert other flights off French airspace (which I know isn't what I said), then the other routes become a bit busier.
In distance you'd land "short", not "early". Silly.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Yes these teachers that GG is on about who spend several years working outside of education are except from this. As is GG and LE. Trust me when I say I have come across some good teachers in my rime, I have also come across some who have attendance records of about 65% and who for years on end just show you DVD's for half of your lessons. I did get support at school but I worked bloody hard and was told that I wouldn't get 5 GCSE's A*-C when I started, I finished with 7.jaffka wrote:Maybe he means those in education, who have always worked in education from leaving education.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

there are thousands of teachers employed in the UK - and - GET THIS! - some are good and some aren't! cor!!
also - why is working in one profession through your life NOT living in the real world? what on earth IS this "real world" you are talking about?
given that you say you are an example of someone who lives in the "real world" - I think I'd want to opt out of it if I could!!
can you describe your job for me and then I can see what "real world" work really entails?
(also - just a hunch - but I bet you wouldn't last a week as a teacher..)
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I guarantee you I would do a good job as a teacher, why because I am not much older than the student's I would be teaching which means I have a bloody better idea as to what goes on in their heads then somebody who left school in the 80s, 70s or god forbid the 60s! I only left school a year ago, so yeah I would fancy my chances.thebish wrote:so.. here's the startling revelation...bwfcdan94 wrote:Yes these teachers that GG is on about who spend several years working outside of education are except from this. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Being an accountant I thought I would let you see the numbers behind my opinion, so here goes. In a year there is 365 day, dividing this by 2 gives you 182.5, but we will round it up to 183. In any given year teachers have 52 weekends equating to 104 days, they also have a further 6 weeks for summer holidays(It is more like 7 but let's be fair to the teachers) so they get a further 30 working days off(I have already counted the weekends), added to this a further 4 weeks for Easter and Christmas equating to 20 days, they also get 3 weeks in half terms equating to a further 15 working days. I am not going to include the inset days as apparently teachers have to work during those and I am not going to include bank holiday's as I am sure teachers do pop in over half term for a couple of days to sort various things out so this balances it all out.
104+30+20+15=169
So in essence teachers have 169 days off a year(they spend 169 days inclusive of weekends not working). So my statement that they only spend half the year at work is pretty close to being factually true. I would also point out that in my experience some teachers have a habit of taking many many days off, something you wouldn't be able to get away with in any other profession. Up until recently it was also very very difficult to be sacked as a teacher, certainly in comparison to other professions. So now you can see the working's behind my opinions (I know you teachers love workings). I won't post any further on the matter as GG say's I am digging myself a whole and probably getting on some of your nerves( although Hoboh and Jaffka seem to be loving it).

Except they don't get all of that time you've said they get off, off.
The number of days a teacher spends teaching does not equal the number of days a teacher works.

Bish is right, Dan. You'd be sacked within a week. The minute you wrote 'digging a whole' on the blackboard, you'd be out before you could say "Ofsted"

This stupid circular non-argument is even more boring than the England game were before. Turn it in FFS.

Dan. The school year consists of 190 days. Add to that time spent marking, preparing lessons etc, etc, etc. You're not even close.
Oh and congratulations on writing off a whole generation of experienced teachers.
I give up. I really do!

None of your post has anything to do with anything Dan. Send a polite letter for your certificates (keep a copy), get them and move on.

I started writing a reply to this but deleted it, I think I would fare better smashing my head against the nearest wall, and as for your ludicrous calculations of hours teachers work... Seriously Dan, just please shut up.bwfcdan94 wrote:

So are people saying that teachers get the same holidays as other workers?

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Nobody said that. Just that Dan's assertions from working in the 'real world' were well, bollocks.

Yeah, get a proper f*cking job Dan, not sitting on your arse fiddling with abacuses all day.
I have to do our departments accounts in about ten minutes, then the real work begins.

The tax office wont accept that as an excuse.
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Well, since I've been considering leaving the real world for a career in teaching I have to say the 169 days off a year has just about swung it for me Dan. I'll be handing my notice in later today.bwfcdan94 wrote:Being an accountant I thought I would let you see the numbers behind my opinion, so here goes. What do they know of the real world anyway? Sitting in an office counting tax all day.
