Re: Today I'm happy about......
not really sure why - but really cheered me up...
walked past the bedroom - the missus ws sorting some clothes and had the telly on - the Wright Stuff
and there was a stand-in presenter - Hardeep Singh Kohli
(his brother did the excellent Fags, Mags & Bags - and he is often on R4)
anyway - here - on a popular daytime show is a turban-wearing sikh NOT there because he is a sikh or to give a view on a religious question - but just as an ordinary presenter. fantastic.

And a Rachman type landlord. Properties alleged to be "Grubby".
I was at Mile End Hospital the other day and waiting for Missus GD was surprised to see the Indian Premier League cricket on the box in the lounge. Pleasant hour passed.

Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make up its own mind.

He has been removed from the weekday evening programme for six months after she lodged a complaint about his behaviour two months ago.
Kohli, 39, said he had apologised "unreservedly" for his behaviour after being hauled before bosses.

no - you misunderstand me - what made me happy (I didn't stop to listen to any of the program) was the simple fact that a turbanned sikh can now be considered for a TV role that doesn't involve talking about sikhism or about some religious conflict or some multi-faith hooh-hah - the simple fact that the role of presenter on a not-specifically-designed-for-an-ethnic-minority show is open to a turbanned sikh. (not vey long ago - it wouldn't have been)
that's all.
as for the presenter himself - who cares - you could moan about all of them - that wasn't the point.
(as an aside - his brother's work - on Fags, Bags and Mags has to have been one of the funniest radio comedies in many years...)

Strange that you notice these things, whilst the majority just watch it without a thought to skin colour or religion.

I did get what you meant Bish. I was being facetious. Though he is highly irritating.thebish wrote:BWFC_Insane wrote:

And I think you're actually displaying some inverse racism there. But hey this is the happy thread!
Re: Today I'm happy about......
maybe I don't watch enough daytime TV... but I am struggling to think of a mainstream daytime programme that has been presented by a turbanned sikh before... so - for me - it's a first - and hence, noticeable as a sign of the way the UK is changing. I'd need to hear a more persuasive argument to be convinced that to notice something new is racism. (not really sure what "inverse" racism is)BWFC_Insane wrote:I did get what you meant Bish. maybe those who watch lots of daytime TV can tell me this is not a first?
anyway - your kind accusation of racism is noted (I'll think about it) - thankyou!
is anything making you happy?

As for inverse racism, its being positive about something purely because of someones religion/race/creed/colour etc...
Like if I said "I really like Owen Coyle and his coaching team because they're all white" I'd be attaching positive characteristics to something purely on their skin colour.
The reverse of which being "I hate that player cos he's black" and there I'm being racist by using their skin colour as a negative characteristic.
If that makes sense. Its no biggie

A percentage of undercurrent racism has always existed and always will. Meanwhile the rest of the world just rolls happily on. You should come and live in Bolton bish.

I remember that chap in the 70's that kept getting in bother for riding his Honda Step Through with no helmet on - which does actually belong in the happy thread because he looked piss funny.

Re: Today I'm happy about......
Everytime I try to get photos/video off the computer the thing freezes and I have to hold the off button, possibly wrecking the com.
(was bought a USB today) Tonight it happened again but I tried the 2nd time and it worked, I even got a 900MB folder for my last copy.
(I even cancelled it as It was saving to a folder within a folder, I then saved in the main thingy (Folder))!!!
I got three gigs worth.
Three videos totalling 1GIG of small clips put into 1 big video.
The rest photo folders, Couldn't find any newborn photos, but there is a few clips in 1 of the Movies.

You should try living in a mixed-race town like Bolton - no rooms for racists here.

I am neither positive nor negative about the person - merely the fact that nowadays (and this seems new to me - forgive me if it isn't) such jobs are open to turbanned sikhs when they didn't used to be. the widening of opportunity makes me happy.
if that's racist - hang me!
