Murray pushing Federer all the way second set. Federer clinging on.
Bit of a reverse of the first set.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
Exact reverse of the first set. Murray dominated had break chances couldn't take them. Then Federer pounced in brilliant fashion. No other player in the world could produce points like that having been backed into a corner for the entire set.
That's why he's the best ever.
Not sure I subscribe to the theory that Federer will tire either. Think that the longer it goes on the harder it will be for Murray to keep up the level he has so far, just to be level with Federer.
Bit of rain now may be quite useful......

Might be a good thing for Murray that play has been suspended.

Depends what you mean by genuine tennis fans really.TANGODANCER wrote:Wonder how many genuine tennis fans have been unable to get tickets today because of "celebrity" fans? I mean, one just cannot have a prestige event without David Beckham and Victoria, (and a couple of hundred like them), can one? Just isn't tennis.
I mean, the vast majority of the so-called tennis-supporting British public only care about tennis 2 weeks of the year.
Are they genuine tennis fans?

Maybe not. But those who travel and pay top prices for tickets certainly are. But you don't travel or go to home games, Tango. Doesn't make you any less of a Wanderer. Does jmjhb follow the tennis calendar around the globe? If not, then why's he so pious?TANGODANCER wrote:Maybe not. But those who travel and pay top prices for tickets certainly are. Probably one of the best returning games you'll ever see from Federer just there.
Unbelievable stuff. Federer playing tennis that's just out of this world and Murray not far behind.

I think Federer has got it in the bag now. Just seems to have that little bit extra on Murray, although overall it's a great final.

Well, a certain amount of tickets are put aside for corporates, etc, like Wembley. Now, considering tickets go on sale ages before Wimbledon starts, then not many people are missing out in reality as getting tickets for the final few days are still nigh on impossible. Trust me, i've tried.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
Federer has just been too good. Feel for Murray. Nothing more he could have done. He's a great competitor but Federer is so good it was always going to be hard to keep that level going.
When he looks back he may think the match turned on one point in the second set. 15-40 on the Federer serve and he had a forehand passing chance that he just put a bit too close to Federer at the net, yard either side and he'd have broken and won the second set. Would have been his then I think.

Unsure how I feel. He's come on a lot, even developed a character ... but did I want to see his miserable mug plastered all over the fecking place and hear the Scotchists prattle on & on ? .... No, not really.
So, que-sera, sera really.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Tennis, anyone.....?
His reaction at the end during the interview and his tears shows how much it means to him.
It's times like this when I compare our footballers to tennis players. Murray will now go off and train again in preparation for his next tournament which won't be far away. He will work probably every day of the year near enough either preparing for tournaments, competing or doing fitness work during the months break. Rest of the time he's all over the world.
He's improved his game steadily and still probably isn't quite there to win a major given the talent around him.
Clearly he wants it more than anything.
Contrast that to footballers, losing a game or a major tournament and out on the piss the same night, swearing at the fans in the case of Rooney, half assed performances, 3 summer holidays a year....and paid silly sums even if they are injured or shite for seasons at a time.
Our sporting culture could learn a lot from the top tennis players and a lot from how hard Murray has worked to improve his game.
