Plans to give pregnant women that smoke £400 in shopping vouchers to stop for the duration of their pregnancy. We truly are bound for Hell in a fecking handcart!

I sort of caught that snippet on the news - I didn't think it had come from any of the parties, but rather the Royal College of Midwives...

No, they are spoiling what was a perfectly functional web site by pandering to Facebook style looks, it's shite and will just attract the Facebook trolls!!!
Guardian comments sections are wonderful once you get used to some of the dyed in the wool commies and the odd, (sometimes very odd) Liberals that are still around.

Just a thought, but first thing that occurred to me, who will be checking? What's to stop people claiming they've stopped, getting the vouchers and just carrying on smoking?

They interviewed some scrotters from up Gateshead way on 5L this morning, Tango. All said that the incentive wouldn't stop them, one even saying she'd take the vouchers but would carry on smoking regardless as no-one would know.

Seriously, is bringing a life into the world not incentive enough?

The Economist has published (on p.21) its list of the best cities to live in in the world overall. While I have no objection to Montreal being ranked second, I am bitterly upset that Toronto is listed as number one. The Leafs alone should drag it down. Consider the goal they gave up last night.

Yes. They are. A story in the Metro today shows pictures of a man being thrown from the 7th floor of a building. He survives only to be then beaten and stoned to death. His crime was being a homosexual.

They are irredeemible bastards. This is not about religion.

I'm staying out of this except to say there would be a large patch of glass in a former dessert state if left to me.

Aye, and how convincing will the condemnation be, when it comes, from the leaders still recovering from falling over one another in their attempts to fawn over King Abdullah?

Not very, the only thing that will be convincing is when apache's and A10's are wiping out these monsters by the score.

Apparently, I'm ignorant and behind the times. I'd accept this at face value, if it wasn't from colleagues who are basing this on a query I sent asking why we seem quite so obsessed with Twitter. We are pulling together a very large conference which will attract delegates who are mainly over 50. Every single poster, flyer, handout starts with a hashtag. It means feck all to me and, I suspect, most of our intended audience, but oh no, it's the way we do things "These days". Fair enough. I was always under the impression that the primary skill in communicating an idea is making it clear and easily understood. #feckoff.....whatever that means.
