Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Noticed somebody a bit back mentioned Riggs Garden Centre in Walsden and the food was good in the pub opposite. Meant to mention it then and forgot but it's now called The Border Rose, it seems. Used to be The Butcher's Arms many years back and was my local, very local in fact as I lived in the house that has the white dormer bit in the pic. Used to sell Ramsden's Stone Trough Ales and it was all pies and pasties back then. Spent a good night or two in there and The Summit Inn at Littleboro a couple of miles up the road.

That's the pub - lovely. The cheese and onion pie there is the best I've ever had.

I'm actually a fair bit before that IP. Talking 1958/61. Can't remember who ran it but it was a decent pub. I lived in Walsden for two years and played (or leyked, as they say up there)football for both Todmorden and Walsden in that era. Long time ago now.Il Pirate wrote:

Edited a date error. Not as old as I thought.

We had hake steaks in a hot paprika and garlic sauce... new potatoes cooked in fish stock, asparagus, Spanish white...
and...
The month's concession to outrageously high living... Roquefort and sweet white wine from Bordeaux... fantastic...

Not heard that - might be a nice one for lunch before a match - if they'd let us in...Bruce Rioja wrote:I hear that Fannie's has opened as a gastro pub. Any good?

After not being on the beer for 6 months, I had a dark mild last night. Sometimes it's the simplest things in life which are best..................

Bank Top does a cracking dark mild.
And their Port-O-Call is top notch.

Back a ways, Chesters dark mild was beer to die for.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
The reason was a change in meds. I tried to drink (although NOTsupposed to) and ended up with a head that hurt like I'd been hit from both sides by a bus. So I had to stop. Dark Mild is my way back. Low alc etc. And very tasty
