Bowlers drink mild. Only other people are old men, and even they have it in a pint of mixed. It's yak.

Bowlers? As in ten pin? Or hats?

As in Crown or Flat Green Bowlers. To clarify, people who play Crown or Flat Green Bowls aren't necessarily 'bowlers', Those cnuts have their own category. And drink mild.

Red pepper and lime soup (wife made). Salmon, new potatoes, broad beans and asparagus. (I made). Glass of medium bodied Douro red. (Portuguese made - and excellent, courtesy of Tesco. One to shock LK).

I can't remember the offer that was on exactly - but there was a shelf of Portuguese wines (a pleasant surprise in itself - including a vinho verde, which I know you're partial to. Me too). i think they were all £6-£7, but two for a tenner. I bought an Alentejo red, pretty good, and the Douro we had tonight which is better than pretty good. and, for a fiver, great value. Genuinely medium bodied. Up your street, i reckon.

Right. After eating at the Shoulder of Mutton again yesterday evening, I think we need a 'Cheese and Onion Pie-Off'. I'm not having it that there's a better one available anywhere, and neither's The General, I'm sure.

Best one is at that one opposite Rigg's Garden Centre. I won't accept any more offers.

Seriously? I'm going to give it anoither go then, because last time I had one I was nearly sick. That was about 20 years ago, but these things stick in your mind.
