What are you playing tonight?

"Me and Mrs Jones" and others with Michael Buble tonight, then an "Old Blue Eyes" selection. Trying for the mellow mood over a twitching gut about tomorrow. It started early.

Listening to some Youtube clips of Mary Flower. A nice lady, who I've met and played guitar with in New York a couple of times. She looks like a slightly cross American housewife, but her playing and knowledge of the instrument, fills me with admiration. Here's one for the acoustic guitar buffs.

Shades of Ralph McTell. Sure knows her way around that fretboard.

Oh yes indeedy. If I'm ever asked, and I'm afraid I am, to nominate Ver Worlds Bestest Guitarist Ever, my questioner oft looks confused when I respond not with a Hendrix, Beck, Clapton, Townshend or Van Halen but with a quiet Nick Drake. No amplification or effects pedals, thanks, just fingers.

There's a whole troupe of acoustic guitarists I could name - some of whom I've had the privilege of playing with.

Woody Mann, Bob Brozman, Martin Simpson (on at Bury Met in June), John Renbourn, Rory Block (a gal), Tommy Emmanuel. All of them tour in the UK and you'll be unlucky if it costs you more than a tenner to see them. Anyone in the North West who likes this sort of stuff should check out the Railway Arms in Greenfield, just outside of Oldham. It's a little country pub, but they have a room upstairs holding about 80 people. They book the most incredible artists for it. You find out how good people are when they're close up. There's nowhere to hide.

Hey, Warthog, how's Tommy E going these days? Saw him a few decades ago live (in my local shopping centre of all places) and was mightily impressed. I have none of his recordings - an oversight I must address - though I have seen and heard him on the odd occasion on television; regrettably not for a while. He always came across to me as a down to earth sort of fellow, though that could be his stage persona.

He has a regular annual date at the Albert Hall in Bolton. Superb performer. Do a search on Youtube - you'll find plenty of his clips. Yes, he does come across as down to earth. I don't think that you can fake that.

Just finishing now, but BBC 6 Music's Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show is perfect fodder for early Saturday evening.

Thanks. I hadn't thought of that. I shall do as you suggest.

......and what a bloody great album it is.

I always forget just how much I enjoy it then I listen to it, and just think "wow", shame I was born 7 years after it's release

And that Townsend didn't really do with it what he wanted, imagine what it would have been like then!!
Incredible album that one.

If I hear Baba O'Riley it puts me in a good mood for the entire day.

Won't get Fooled again has the best scream in music history as well :)

Bit hit and miss.

Bought a new ipod last week with some money I was given for me birthday.

Filling it with all kinds, but have rediscovered all my old Badly Drawn Boy stuff, and loving the Complete Stone Roses.

Scooped myself the Super Furry Animals 'songbook' DVD for eight quid off DVDsource. Some very (re)watchable videos, many very (re)listenable songs.

Duffy Rockferry

Really amazing voice, reminds me a bit of Janis Joplin (not as gravelly and not as good)...... and as a bonus you probably would

Nah, I like natural women who smile from time to time. All this moody, supposedly sexy look just puts me off. Take the videos away and nine-tenths of them would never sell a record. You want a good-looking woman who can really sing? Try this:
