Unfortunately I am not a member of either. It was a pet food manufacturer so they probably wouldn't have noticed anyway.Dujon wrote:A trip to your local golf/bowling club might have sorted that for you, Malc.

I very, very rarely use the 'C' word, but the killer of Cecil the Lion, some half wit psycho from the US, is indeed a c*** of the first order. It seems an Internet witch hunt is underway, which is some small comfort.

Today I'm angry, not because they're putting petrol up by by around 25% on Saturday, but because every petrol station in the country (there's not enough of them) is going to have massive queues until then and the tank will need some before then

I hope he is ... & continues to have reason to be.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

He's actually come out with this, like it makes the murdering of your average animal in the name of 'fun' quite alright. The total c*nt."I had no idea that the lion I took was a known, local favorite, was collared and part of a study until the end of the hunt".bobo the clown wrote:Apparently today "he's sorry".thebish wrote:bob on there..Bijou Bob wrote:I very, very rarely use the 'C' word, but the killer of Cecil the Lion, some half wit psycho from the US, is indeed a c*** of the first order. I'm not an especial animal lover but I also can't get why someone feels they get a kick from this or has the right to do it. Apparently paid $35,000 to hunt it, let alone the travel and hotels.
There are photos of him having killed leopards & huge moose and bears. So this is how he gets his rocjs off. What a tit.
He's only sorry that the fuss has arisen, not for doing it.

Think theres a couple of depressing things about this. One as you say is that people want to do it and will pay big money. The second is that its big business and as no doubt will be trotted out at some stage, these animals wouldn't be allowed to survive unless they had the economic value for the hunt

It was a collared animal in a national park - they are allowed to survive there and are (theoretically) protected. We haven't heard the end of this one.StaffsTrotter wrote:bobo the clown wrote:I'm not an especial animal lover but I also can't get why someone feels they get a kick from this or has the right to do it. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
What a cretin! I haven't read the full story on his evil deed but how could anyone do what he did?
On another angry tack, this morning I attended the rooms of a local ophthalmologist following a reference from my optometrist. Four hours later I arrived home $210 lighter in the wallet and knowing little more than I did from the optometrist's original report. Fortunately I have found a local community bus which caters for idiots like me who find it impossible to access public transport and undertake the necessary walking at each end of such travel.
So, next week it's back again for an angio-somethingorother - which involves injecting some sort of vegetable dye into a vein and then watching it as it percolates through the eye's blood vessels. The specialist warned that some people have an allergic reaction to this; sometimes severe, sometimes fatal. Good grief! After that it's probably laser work on the back of the eye. Eeek! I wasn't game to ask the cost of all this, but I bet it's bloomin' expensive.
I'm getting in copious amounts of Scotch to get me through to Friday week.

Except hunting permits are issued and 'game management' occurs within the park, as well as the more obvious illegal poaching. By all accounts the lion was killed on private land adjoining the park, so not illegal in that respect but part of the case is whether it was lured there by bait. I'm still not sure what this furore is about - I'd hope it was about the big issues of our relationship with animals and the planet, but suspect its more because the lion had a name, or because he was a dentist and an american to boot. There certainly seems something within our human nature and our social standing relationships that drives the trophy hunt, particularly by our rich and powerfulMontreal Wanderer wrote:It was a collared animal in a national park - they are allowed to survive there and are (theoretically) protected. I can understand culling and the need to keep numbers controlled. I can understand the economic argument for selling g licences. I can even understand (real) hunting. I can't see why a grown man would get his rocks off shooting a beast like this with a gun and sights which would make missing quite an achievement.

but didnt he use a crossbow which I assume would take more skill to kill 'efficiently' and presumably requires the hunter to get closer to the quarry. These may give an understandable rationale, but IMO not agreeable. Unfortunately in this instance, it only led to the animal taking a couple of days to die, so he was a shit shot as wellbobo the clown wrote:I can understand culling and the need to keep numbers controlled. Why go to that bother? Just take his crossbow away and leave him to the lions.Hoboh wrote:
