I'm now protesting by burning effigies of Arthur Scargill.
I loved the fact that Ian Paisley and Martin McGuinness became such good friends. Pity their peers and constituents didn't share the love.

Surely the folk working dear little Greta from behind haven't been feeding her duff info!

I wonder when she's visiting China to lay the law down there.

Ah well looks like BWFCi's party of heroes
who are going to lead us to the promised land in Bolton have, despite the Torys being led by the worst leader in living memory, lost control of the council. Who would have thought it possible? After all they are doing to make the empty town at least look nice whilst the rest of us put up with weeds and pot holes in our streets, a bit like Venezuela eh

So Labour and Tories and UKIP all losers.
Greens and Lib Dems (who I voted for) the big winners.
Remain parties cleaning up. Who'da thunk it?

I voted Lib Dem in the council elections because the candidate was the best for my area. I would never, ever vote for Lib Dem in a General Election.
Do not assume that these local elections mean that Remain camp is somehow clear favourites nationally. This was not about Brexit.

I don't assume that. Local elections always give you trends but often they are obscured by individual local issues.malcd1 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 9:59 amBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 9:09 amSo Labour and Tories and UKIP all losers.

However, I think its clear that Labour and Tories lost a lot of their remain vote to the Lib Dems last night. Whether in a GE that is repeated is a different question and the European elections will have more players in and present a different picture.
But ultimately it does show that there are plenty of people frustrated at the idea of Brexit. Although we already knew that....

I, unashamedly, voted Farnwoth and Kearsley first.

I doubt anyone who wants Brexit would vote Lib Dem or Green - given they are openly remain parties.Hoboh wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:06 amSo be a use I voted like plenty I know for anyone but labour and Tory we are closet remainers? Re: The Politics Thread
You could though, contemplate the Greens and Liberals make gains through the fact angry voters spoilt their papers deliberately, as a message. Take my ward, just over 900 people voted, the two incumbents lost by just tens of votes, whilst there were 161 spoilt ballots.BWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:12 amI doubt anyone who wants Brexit would vote Lib Dem or Green - given they are openly remain parties.Hoboh wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:06 amSo be a use I voted like plenty I know for anyone but labour and Tory we are closet remainers? In the local elections, voting for the local councillors? You really think everyone base their vote on national issues? These councillors neither stood on a Brexit policy or have any influence on Brexit. You vote for who think who would do the best job for your area in your town not what they influence in the House of Commons.

Re: The Politics Thread
In theory that is how it works but in practice and reality it doesn't work like that, especially when there is widespread national unrest at current politics. I'm sure those 800 plus Tory councillors who will lose their seats haven't all done bad jobs....malcd1 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 1:27 pmBWFC_Insane wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:12 amI doubt anyone who wants Brexit would vote Lib Dem or Green - given they are openly remain parties.Hoboh wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:06 amSo be a use I voted like plenty I know for anyone but labour and Tory we are closet remainers? I have no doubt apathy comes into this as well, especially considering the usual low turnout. I personally think Brexit voters are probably more disillusioned more with politics than the Remainers as they will think they have been let down by their MP's, government and the Conservatives.
You will also get die-hard Labour voters who would never vote for a Conservative candidate and vice versa but my local elections vote bears no relation to what is happening nationally, Brexit or not. I may be unusual but I always vote for who I think will do the best for my local area, nothing else.
