What if she was employed in a job wearing a hi-viz jacket. Or any bloke for that matter. Would it be ok for him to have no respect then? I'm basing that on your own standards tbf.Bijou Bob wrote:I think it's fair to say, that whilst no association may exist between your use of language and the possibility that you beat up women, it seems entirely possible that it's indicative of your lack of respect for them.Worthy4England wrote:But, but clearly the association between calling someone a bird and blatant wife beating is unequivocal. And what if she was overweight (a fat bird, so to speak)? To paraphrase Bob "showing a complete lack of self respect"?Burnden Paddock wrote: What if she was employed in a job wearing a hi-viz jacket. Self-respect? Is Enoch an over-weight lady? Or is it BP? If you're confused, I'm utterly fogged.Bruce Rioja wrote:And what if she was overweight (a fat bird, so to speak)? Yes, it is possible. Like it's possible I build moon rockets. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Nearly 14,000 disabled people who rely on a specialist motoring allowance have had their cars taken away from them following government welfare changes.
Figures seen by the BBC show almost half of those having to be reassessed for this support under the changes lost their Motability vehicle.
Many had been adapted to meet their owners' needs and campaigners warn it could lead to a loss of independence.
But the government says the new process is fairer and people can appeal.
feck off tories.

Yes, you can call him anything you like, it's not exactly pejorative is it? Bird and tart, I would suggest, are.Enoch wrote:Is it still ok to call a bloke, a bloke, or is that passe too?Worthy4England wrote:Yes, it is possible. Like it's possible I build moon rockets. Not true, but possible.
To a degree, I've been hoist by my own petard this morning, except that the examples given by BP and Bruce do evidence my own prejudices. I'm not proud of them, but they do exist and rightly, I've been called out on them. I know where they come from and I do need to reflect on why I still occasionally let them get the better of my judgement.
50 years ago, the word "N*****" was common. 25 years ago, the word "P***" was heard fairly often. Racism has reduced in part because people began to challenge that language, its suitability, meaning and level of offence.
Sadly, we still live in a world where women are often regarded as chattels. Have a look round any pub on a Friday night and you'll see a nervous looking woman, stood with a bloke looking at the floor. She's doing that because to raise her eyes will possibly land her with an accusation of "looking at another bloke" and result in a battering. Women are routinely beaten, abused and tortured both physically and psychologically within relationships. This week, we've seen worse in Yorkshire. Only by challenging prejudice and pejorative language can we hope to start a process of change towards a place where insecure, pathetic men can take those insecurities out on their partners. It's only my opinion, but we can start by not calling women "Birds", "Tarts" etc etc
Sorry for the rant, it's something I feel deeply about.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I get random job vacancies emailed to me by Linkedin, all of which are totally irrelevant and are usually deleted without being read. This morning though I noticed a company that operates in an associated field are advertising a position and made me curious, so I read it as far as - "Applicants must be people fluent....".Lord Kangana wrote:What, and might I enquire where, the f*ck is that being said/written?Bruce Rioja wrote:"People fluent". Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I read Enoch's original post and didn't actually think he was being remotely pejorative in the context he posted it. I'm happy for prejudice to be challenged where it exists but not on the basis that it currently is on the internet hyperbole "burn the heretic" basis.Bijou Bob wrote:Yes, you can call him anything you like, it's not exactly pejorative is it? More mildly irked but some herbert on the radio yesterday was bemoaning the cost of ladies toiletries compared to men's. I switched off when he said "the female community"
"Get your feet off the furniture you Oxbridge tw*t. You're not on a feckin punt now you know"
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I concur Worthy, I'm not trying to "Burn the heretic", just picking up the use of the word "Bird" which I find offensive and which I'm not sure you can use without it being pejorative in that context. I'd do the same with the other words I mentioned, I happen to think it's important that we do. There's no change without challenge.

That really does annoy me, "hey guys" says one woman to a 'bunch' of others in a film. Nooooooo.
[ then again 'girl' originally meant a young boy, bet you didn't know that].
That's not a leopard!
