nowt they were all stoned at the time

Edit!!!!!

Sorry they started building Concorde didn't they? So the imports could get here faster
While Tony Benn was building Nuclear Power stations, Harold Wilson shagging his secretary and passing secrets to the Russians, George Brown was permanently pissed and each & every one of them rejected the idea of joining the EEC, as they nationalisied everything that could be nailed down and watching the balance of trade go to rat-shit whilst presiding over a 40% reduction in the value of the £.

Good job they were doing such a great job of handling the unions & improving the education system or those years may have seemed wasted.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

have you just read a book about the cotton mills, CAPS - or is that as far back as you have to stretch to think of summat to bash the labour party with?

Tories were in power until 1964. So I guess you just want me to cover the other six years of the 1960's?

Edit - Actually found something interesting in this direction from 1952.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/onde ... 1&size=4x3

This clip points to the crisis in the cotton mills in the 1950's (1952 to be precise). It's based on Bolton, Lancashire and comments that 59 out of 87 mills had closed this year after generally booming (couldn't find enough workers etc. etc.) up until a year previous. Co-incidentally in 1951 - a year previous - a Conservative government had won the election and taken over from the previous Labour one.

Want me to do 1964-1969 now? :-)

For some reason, after cooking breakfast, there seems to be a lingering stench of burnt hair. Some going for a baldy. Must be my arm hairs.

I'm now sniffing my arms for any location, without luck.

It's not the mystery of where it's from that's making me the most angry. It's just a disgusting smell.
Pig hair on the bacon rind.
Cool. Now, how does that get on poached eggs and beans on toast?

On most toasters there's a little flap on the bottom which is provided to enable cleaning. Toasted mouse - yummy!

Kelvin Mackenzie.

Don't you just want to smash his face in? There, thats real proper anger right there.

Being blissfully unawre of this, I've just been and checked mine. Turns out it has a little tray that pulls out, a little tray with two year's worth of toast crumbs on it. My kitchen is now Toast Crumb City! :(

I've come away from it, same as I have to when Galloway's on it. Going to bed annoyed is never good.

So you didn't lift it up to look underneath it then? with it directly above your head?

Mind, only a complete tit would do that...

The real mystery is how Caroline Flint could ever be considered 'window dressing'...

I guess when the competition is Anne Widdicombe and Margaret Beckett, then it's all a bit relative :-)

We've already covered most of the 80s and 70s, Worthy's gone back to the 50s so it makes sense. I'm sure some fooker did summat in 1907.

No new topic, but:

Last week our bins got emptied (all four of them). Prior to that it was three weeks since we'd seen any sign of a council waggon. Today is bin day (just the one) and so far there isn't any sign of the drag-em, scoop-em and sling em fusileers who used to roll up at 7-30. I long ago gave up on ever seeing a grit waggon in any roads near us, (more chance of Louis Hamilton driving his Formula One past our house), so hopes aren't high on seeing the car pebble dashers either.

The point of the post? I just got a letter telling me my council tax has gone up by a £100 a year.

I'll just throw in, in the spirit of the thread: Regular post times are a thing of antiquity and courier drivers have a monitoring service that tells them when you're out so they can't deliver goods.

Have a nice day somebody.

Good heavens, lord help that bloke when the expenses claims for civil-servants come out in the media, he spends more on food than Bernard Manning ever did.

[TANGO] You're lucky, round my way we just get the bill in the mail.

A £100 increase is a bit of a hike isn't it? Last year I paid the equivalent of £810 (approx) including our bushfire/emergency service and domestic waste levies. Whilst it's not beyond the realm of possibility I won't be impressed if this year's bill increases by 12% +.
