Actually, thinking about whose picture is on a banknote, I don't really give a damn if it's Dennis the Menace, Dan Dare or Keyhole Kate, as long as it's legal tender. Does anybody ever look? I don't.

I looked the other day: when I got cashback and the feckers gave me a £50 note. It's been so long since I last saw one, I had no idea if it was genuine or not... I mean, it's RED ffs! It could have had Pocahontas on the bloody thing, I checked its watermark and everything, but do you know even though it was only in my sticky mitt this weekend, I cannot remember whose face is on it!TANGODANCER wrote:Actually, thinking about whose picture is on a banknote, I don't really give a damn if it's Dennis the Menace, Dan Dare or Keyhole Kate, as long as it's legal tender. It was Sir John Houblon if it was the old style fifty, and Matthew Boulton and James Watt on the newer version. Adam Smith is on the twenty, Darwin on the tenner and Elizabeth Fry on the fiver. (So it say on Wiki. I'd have known Darwin and that's it)Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I looked the other day: when I got cashback and the feckers gave me a £50 note. You see, that's how little notice I took of it. I think it was the two Ronnies on there, but can't be certain as the picture box in my brain is giving me static when I dial up Sunday afternoon shopping.TANGODANCER wrote:It was Sir John Houblon if it was the old style fifty, and Matthew Boulton and James Watt on the newer version. I cannot see the photo, but hailstones are quite usual in summer. You get more hail in summer than in winter. That's a fact.Bruce Rioja wrote:Meanwhile, this photo was taken 10 minutes ago. See those white bits on the lawn? Hailstones!!!! It's fecking July!!!!!

Aye. I can see that. I can see the hail and the dead canaries struck down by the hail... no, wait, they might be leaves.

We only get hail in the summer here, but generally the size of golf balls - serious damage to cars and people. Fortunately this does not happen every summer.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:I cannot see the photo, but hailstones are quite usual in summer. You get more hail in summer than in winter. Re: General Chit Chat
the missus was just laughing uncontrollably at a story she read on mumsnet..
apparently they had been on holiday - settled their kids in front of a DVD (aged 8 and 5) - and snuck off for a quickie in their bedroom... whilst they were still in action, the 5yr old wanders into bedroom to get something - they dive under covers and think they have got away with it..
few weeks later - watching a wildlife programme - in the company of mummy and grandma & grandad - the 5 yr old announces - "I have seen three things mating now - foxes, jellyfish and mummy and daddy. The foxes were best. mummy and daddy were better than the jellyfish."

Just realised what a nice introduction into the second tier of English football Yeovil and their fans have first game: Millwall away.
Following away trip: Burnley away
They won't want to go to away games by the middle of August

To be fair he's showing a remarkable insight into the north-east for a guy who's possibly never been their without a police escort !!thebish wrote:Lord Howell, a Government energy adviser and father-in-law to George Osborne, has described parts of the North East of England as “desolate” and suggested controversial fracking should be concentrated away from the south.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

It was absolutely disgraceful opinion to put forward in parliament "he wants to save the innocent south". People like him really get under my skin, he cant see past London and thinks that everybody in the north of England is worthless. Typical Conservative.

What do you think of the North-East, Dan?

Where are you drawing the boundaries? Some of it is absolutely stunning other bits are complete sh*tholes, it seems like their are not many average places their though. Where are you drawing the boundaries. I can give you a further explanation if you verify where you are referring too, Just Durham, Teeside and the eastern part of Northumberland or are you including Yorkshire with the previous three as well?
