Ooh not had the strawberry one yet. Had a lemon one and a pear one. Ginger one was nice too, didn't really taste like cider at all, just like (non-alcoholic) ginger beer.truewhite15 wrote:Good stuff, that. Bit sweet. Can't drink more than one bottle in a sitting. I recommend the strawberry one though...LiOC wrote:I'm on the Brothers Toffee apple cider. I think this is the strangest thing I've ever drank. Quite nice though. Was on offer, also got some ginger cider but not got round to that yet!

Well, until William's post I'd never even heard of a tagine, and now I've looked it up and I'm still hardly any the wiser. What do you do with it? Stick it on the stove? Stick it in the oven?

May the bridges I burn light your way

Either. That's the beauty of it.

Its just a terracotta stew pot Bruce.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
Interesting. Mine's not terracotta... but they mostly are in morocco, I guess... The claim is the conical shape of the lid means that steam is directed round the pot in a way that keeps the contents more moist and succulent than other forms of casserole... I'm only one dish into the tagine experience so not in any place to argue, though that first experience was very positive, but are you sceptical, LK?Lord Kangana wrote:Its just a terracotta stew pot Bruce.

Most cultures influenced by The Moors have a version. The southern French have the Cassole, the Spanish Cazuela. They're all just a variation on a theme. I'm not sceptical, but its the ingredients not the the vessel thats really making the difference.

so - if i'd used the same ingredients in the normal casserole (cast iron) last friday I'd have had the same dish? Not saying it's unlikely - but I've just spent £65 on this...

£65 on a tagine? Dooes it do the washing up aswell?
I'd honestly expect about a dozen for that. Really.

It is one of these, right
And to answer bish's point, well actually theres a reason behind the stone ovens. Though most are a concrete-like base these days. Its because they can retain a much higher heat without buckling, which you would get with metal. I can atest to their ferociousness because I once lost half my hair in one. Instantly. They are f*cking hot.

If you live in london or bristol it definitely does... stuff's not fit to wash in...thebish wrote:who's to say? some say "belief" plays a part in taste...William the White wrote:so - if i'd used the same ingredients in the normal casserole (cast iron) last friday I'd have had the same dish? Re: What are you eating and drinking tonight?
It's not that one - but, obviously, similar... there were huge numbers much cheaper - and the customer reviews were saying they cracked first time on the hob, even with a heat diffuser - and ours - emile henry - said - put us on the hob, we don't care, heat diffuser not needed, throw it at us, we can take it... We obviously fell for the machismo...Lord Kangana wrote:£65 on a tagine? Dooes it do the washing up aswell?

Which you don't.
I've lived here 22 years and can attest to the cleanliness of Thames Water's system and cleansing processes (having also worked for them for a time).
The water we use is perfectly fine for drinking. It's different because of the London Chalk which it filters through and is therefore 'Hard' water.

with respect - that's utter bollox.William the White wrote:If you live in london or bristol it definitely does... stuff's not fit to wash in...thebish wrote:who's to say? some say "belief" plays a part in taste...William the White wrote:so - if i'd used the same ingredients in the normal casserole (cast iron) last friday I'd have had the same dish? I reckon having done 2 and a half hours 'work' before 8.30am deserves a breakfast of a cup of tea and a cadburys caramel bar, in bed, before I join the twins in taking a morning nap.

London tap water still tastes like shit. Whether it contains it or not.

nahh... that's bollox too! it tastes fine!
in 2008 a blind-tasting of 10 regional tap waters (plus a bottled mineral water thrown in for good measure) produced the following table:
1. Severn Trent Water
2. Anglian Water
3. Thames Water
4. Dwr Cymru Welsh Water
5. Southern Water
6. Scottish Water
7. South West Water
8. Yorkshire Water
9. United Utilities
10. Wessex Water
(The mystery mineral water came in ahead of Yorkshire Water in 8th place.)

Plenty southerners like the taste of Harry Monk so dodgy tap water isn't going to put them off

Never forget my first taste of Courages Ale in London. Tasted vile.

C'mon then bish, find us a 2008 blind tasting survey to disprove this one.....CAPSLOCK wrote:Plenty southerners like the taste of Harry Monk so dodgy tap water isn't going to put them off
