Top drawer entertainment! The minors from the north-east might have been cack tonight, but Brum were excellent. We were even treated to a Bruuunnnnooooo moment.

If I were a Toon fan I think I'd have topped meself years ago, but I love it when they're on the box - you haven't got a clue what the result will be. They've been doing it for years too, gawd bless 'em (the 4-3 games against Liverpool and the chucking away of a 3-0 home lead against Barcelona being particular highlights from the dim but not so distant past).

I'd feel a bit sorry for Roeder if he didn't so obviously have the fallback of a second career as Ann Robinson's stunt double.

Not just one but a few. The quality of Bruno's chipped few balls were a joy to watch today. At least two of them split open the Newcastle defence and thats quite the achievement from the rightback slot. (mind you it doesn't say much with Newcastle defending).

They fielded an underage team? That would explain the score.

No typo Monty. They certainly played like a schoolby team, at any rate.

Looks like their injuries have finally caught up with them.

If I was a geordie fan I wouldn't be arsed about this result, I'd just be concentrating on the league and what kind of miracle is being worked to get them so far up the table with a full squad of 11 player injured.

We can laugh for now, but when they get some of their players back I have a feeling they will shoot up the table.

I think I disagree kev

I think when the players are back they'll drop off again. They're ddoing so well at the moment as the young kids are just showing no fear or respect for reputations so they're never knowing when they're beaten.

When the regular money grabbers are back for them they'll just not care about it as much

Just my opinion though

I know where you're coming from, but I think that a mix of some of the players who have come through now, and players who are actually any good, could do well.

There are some players that Newcastle fans are probably pleased seeing injured, such as Bramble and Ameobi. When Owen comes back for example, Newcastle will have one of the best front lines in the Premiership.

You think Owen and Ameobi will make any kind of partnership?

And that's assuming Owen is at any decent level when he returns, or is he just happy counting his £120k a week!

Fair point. Though you'd have to assume he is really going to put the effort in to ensure his England place is secure. He's never played under Rednose Mclaren.

He'll know his place is secured, just look at the squads given that Beckham was the sacrificial lamb (rightly IMO), it's basically the same as the Erikkson squads.

Also given McClaren has been saying he needs a striker that'll score every other game at Internatiional level my money is on he's talking about Owen.

So you don't see Crouch as the future then?

I'd like to think that he still has to earn his place in the squad when he's fit by proving himself at Newcastle first.

Does anyone else hate Glenn Roeders smug interviews after the game. I’ve never forgotten the one where he slagged Allardyce off for suggesting he needed the UEFA Pro Licence and last nights was similarly smug

Bear in mind Souness was allegedly sacked after the chairman grew tired of him moaning about injuries, Roeder was asked last night “do you feel the injury situation caught up with you”

Roeder started smirking, a smug little slit appeared in his face, his eyes visibly grinning even if his mouth wasn’t quite and he had a sly glance at the camera and said
“I won’t use that as an excuse”

He is a smug bastard, but fair play to him because he hasn't used that as an excuse, when near enough every manager would be complaining about it. *cough*mourhino*cough*

fair play but even in the fearsomely short memoried ranks of football managers..
Bemoaning your sides poor form in a battering off Brum and bl;aming injuries
3 days after the same squad had mugged off the spuds 3-2.. and a week or so after a battling home draw with the league leaders...
would be a difficult position to defend.. even for a smarmy superciolious squeaky little t*at Shammer
Are we in League 2 yet - Three seasons and we'll be away to Chesham

I think a lot of credit should go to Brum for their game attitude and no small measure of skill. They set about a much more powerful appearing side and destroyed them by sheer persistance and hundred-percent effort. Whether it will take them any further in the Cup, I know not; but they gave all and got a just result because of it. After seeing their fans great attitude at the Reebok in the last match last season, I admit, I was cheering them on. Well done Brum.
