There's a 6'6" guy who plays with our co-rec team sometimes. He's a great keeper but he can also dribble from the back and score, score from 50 yards, do pretty much anything he pleases. Never had much interest in playing pro though as I understand it.
Kicks so far that he had a try-out with the Seahawks as a place kicker.

Mike Scott's from Daisy Hill, too?americantrotter wrote:Cue abusive comments how the water boy must've been better than Nicky.finlayson wrote:Nicky Hunt when at primary school.
He played up front because he was a right lanky get even then.
Blimey, you learn something every day!

I didn't play with him (I'm not that way inclined) but I used to know David Hill. This was school days and, at the time, he was mad on trotters (or pacers - those horse races where the steeds are hobbled and pull a light weight cart). He went on to oversee the (then) new one day cricket series in Australia and is now the bloke you can blame for the change in television viewing of various sports.

Played in a 6 a side match against a team with Lee Todd in the side (not that famous, but was afull-back that played for Stockport County, Southampton, Rochdale etc). He was retired and unfit, but he was still good. Just the ability to stike a ball extemely hard, straight and low that comes from years of football training.

Charlie Hanks, ex Welsh international, used to coach our football team.
Mixed with a few football rich and famous at Frannie Lee parties: Mike Summerbee, Rod Thomas, Freddie Hill, Dave McKay,
Rodney Marsh etc etc at the well-known sport of ale and spirit quaffing. They were all well above my league I can tell you.

I taught him everything he knew!!

Got a mate who is a die-hard Bradford fan, and it's fair to say that Schumacher isn't exactly their most popular player after he allegedly 'gave the V' to his own fans when they got relegated at Chesterfield!boltonboris wrote:Played football against a Lad called Stephen Schumacher, who at the time was at Everton and England u16's, I was on trial with Yoonited and he made me a laughing stock, He's at Bradford now, which I was amazed at, I though he was destined for greatness
As far the confines of the playground are concerned, I've played against Mickey Tonge (Sheff Utd) and Michael Lea (Man Utd Reserves Player of the Year this year) on countless occasions, but in terms of an organised game, the best player I've played against (and indeed alongside a couple of times) is probably Luke Joyce, a midfielder who was previously at Wigan but is currently playing at Carlisle.
At school I played in a pretty successful rugby team so played alongside Darryl Kay (Leigh Centurions), Adrian Dootson (Salford), Mark Hobson (Salford) though the best player was probably Andy Bracek, who is now playing Super League on a semi-regular basis for Warrington. I played against Joel Tomkins (Wigan) on a good few occasions but he was never particularly impressive at that time, can only assume he improved a lot once he'd joined Wigan's Academy really.

PLayed a couple of times against a lad at my school called Keith Wedge, who went on to get a professional contract at Bury a two or three seasons ago. Last I heard he was playing for Altrincham. Then I played with a guy who used to have trials with Man City who was actually impossible to tackle.
As for other sports...at the start of Uni here I had a game of tennis with my flatmate who said he was 'fairly ok', which he neglected to say was a synonym for 'Played for the Portuguese National team'
