It really does make me laugh the way people lambast Gallagher (either of them) for their quotes.
I love their music and their interviews are funny. They don't take themselves seriously and nowadays are a breath of fresh air in a world full of boring, bland dross like the Editors. They make music to enjoy, and enjoy making the music. That comes across in their interviews, they don't care what people think of them because despite being filthy rich and owning several houses each, they are still the same lads that grew up with nothing.
People often get the wrong idea about Noel especially, but you only have to hear him (regularly) on the Russell Brand show to know he's just really funny, more clever than he's given credit for and FREQUENTLY mis-quoted.

They always sell the rights to one mag to prevent unwanted intruders taking pictures or even their guests selling their own pictures to the papers. It's just some pictures of their wedding, how is it "vulgar and horrible"FD wrote: Rooney is barely an adult and not only is it ridiculous the money he has, it's also disgusting the way these kind of people sell the exclusive to their wedding photos. A wedding shouldn't be about making money, especially when you're already f**king loaded, it's vulgar and horrible to "sell" your wedding photo's.

It's very weird, this big-spender stuff.
Of course Liam Gallagher has a point, once you get past his excessive language ... it's bllx to live your life the way the WAG/Celeb culture does.
However, once someone earns that level of dosh then spending it ... thus recycling the cash ... is what keeps the economy going. If all they did was to stuff it under their mattress then very soon it's economic impact disappears.
So, whether we approve of their way of spending or not (&, no, I don't) then spending it is actually a positive thing.
... tho I loath the whole well-off chav scene that he seems to represent. In other words, I'd do a better, more classy job of frittering that money away if only they'd give it to me.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Yeah you're right, I'm absolutely certain that with all that money an security there is absolutely NO way they could prevent unwanted guests from taking photos. None whatsoever. But you are right, it must be that reason or else it is indeed just vulgar and horrible. I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with greed whatsoever.Athers wrote:They always sell the rights to one mag to prevent unwanted intruders taking pictures or even their guests selling their own pictures to the papers. I tell you for one thing, no matter how rich I was (or wasn't) there is no money that could get me to sell my wedding photo's to a rag like OK. I'm pretty damn certain none of my friends or family would do it either.
Of course, if they didn't spend £20 million or whatever on the most ridiculous wedding then perhaps they wouldn't draw quite so much attention...
Wierdly, Noel Gallagher managed to have a non-registry office wedding when he got married the second time, plenty of guests, friends etc and yet no photo's appeared in any of the tabloid rag magazines. Wierd!
Edit: Oh and I believe it's vulgar and horrible because a wedding day is a rather special event, one to be shared with loved ones, friends, family. Not the entire country and numerous other countries that sell imported copies of the magazine. I feel exactly the same about women like Jordan, putting her baby in a magazine for it's first birthday. Some things are sacred (at least to me) and I believe they should stay private. Personally speaking as well I have absolutely no interest in any given celebrities "world" anyway, especially not two bit ones famous for looking and acting a c**t like Jordan.

If that was the reason, why did they decide that a bidding war should be the way to do it rather than, for example, like Will Carling and Johnny Vegas did, sell to Viz for a quid? Or, even better, keeping the photos of such a special day to their focking egotistical selves?Athers wrote:They always sell the rights to one mag to prevent unwanted intruders taking pictures or even their guests selling their own pictures to the papers. Not greed - they recouped half their costs for their day.FD wrote: Yeah you're right, I'm absolutely certain that with all that money an security there is absolutely NO way they could prevent unwanted guests from taking photos. That's your choice and Rooney's choice.FD wrote:I tell you for one thing, no matter how rich I was (or wasn't) there is no money that could get me to sell my wedding photo's to a rag like OK. I'm pretty damn certain none of my friends or family would do it either.
£20m now eh. Their outlay was £5m and they got £2.5m from OK, not a bad deal if you got it. Let him spend £200k on his wife's wedding dress, who gives a toss? £2.5m for them two is probably about the same percentage of annual income of an ordinary Joe.Of course, if they didn't spend £20 million or whatever on the most ridiculous wedding then perhaps they wouldn't draw quite so much attention...
No idea if this is true, but since you seem to work PR for the Gallaghers you must know.Wierdly, Noel Gallagher managed to have a non-registry office wedding when he got married the second time, plenty of guests, friends etc and yet no photo's appeared in any of the tabloid rag magazines. Wierd!
Jordan I agree with you because it involves children, but although you say you have no interest in celebrities you certainly seem interested enough to take some moral high ground and slate them. It was a 'special event, shared with loved ones, friends and family', then some pictures of it appeared in a magazine. Greed, plain and simple. Most people spend money on the day for the love of it, because it's important. Getting the money back, or losing a vast sum (to them) means nothing because it simply isn't about that. Are you married yourself? If you are then I simply don't understand how you can't grasp this.Athers wrote:Not greed - they recouped half their costs for their day.
Fair enough.Athers wrote:That's your choice and Rooney's choice.
"Or whatever" which I clearly wrote as I couldn't remember the exact cost. So all of a sudden because they have more money they should spend more money on an occasion that most people will experience at some point?£20m now eh. Nice grown up response there. The fact you don't know if it's true surely leads to the fact it is true and it is indeed possible to have a celebrity wedding that is lovely and enjoyable for the couple yet doesn't have to be on the coffee table the following week.No idea if this is true, but since you seem to work PR for the Gallaghers you must know.
The moral high ground? Maybe I have, but someone f**king well should do and I've done so because I personally think it's vulgar, you don't have to like that or agree with it. I'm a hugely sentimental person and I don't believe that photographs of you on your most special day should be front page (of anything) news. I think it's ugly, I think it diminishes the day and I think it's greedy.Jordan I agree with you because it involves children, but although you say you have no interest in celebrities you certainly seem interested enough to take some moral high ground and slate them. As for your comments on celebrities, I don't live under a rock and work in an environment where the radio is on. I read the papers and watch the news because I'm interested in what is going on in the world. Unfortunately with those mediums along comes all this other celebrity shite, it's unavoidable nowadays and worse than I ever remember it, especially with horrendous programs like Big Brother that make celebrities out of nobodies who have done nothing. Nowadays celebrities are celebrities because they've shoved a bottle up their clunge on live tv so please forgive me if I try to avoid or distance myself from that type of "fame".
Funny enough I also like football and Wayne Rooney is a footballer who when just doing normal things gets a lot of press. I'm a very private person and I don't want to know about their wedding but I don't have a choice because it's forced down my neck because THEY choose to sell photographs and because the news reporters deem it newsworthy that a footballer has gotten married.
By becoming celebrities, taking all that money and the fame they become role models. Whether they like it or not, they do and (again) personally I think that selling your photo's to OK (in a bidding war no less) is the absolute wrong example to set. It's fairly obvious that you and I do not see eye to eye on this subject though.

About sums it up. The the media justify it all under the "The public has a right to know" banner. Personally, I'm not the slightest bit interested how much Rooney(or anyone else) spends on their wedding. I'd be offended if I thought he was commenting on how much I spent on mine. Liam Gallagher is either very interested or just wants some of all the attention it got. He could have just kicked the cat and called it seveteen kinds of name, prefixed by 'fxxxing'. instead of informing the world of his views.Bruce Rioja wrote:I think the saddest thing here is that there's a vibrant and healthy market for these photos. Personally, I don't even bother with the likes of OK or Hello even in the Dentist's waiting room, despite there being feck all else to read.
