England take gold and bronze in the women's triathlon. Canada have silver. Good race that.

After the cliché ridden version of Scottishness Bingo went down poorly the organisers are claiming that it was a parody.

To be fair they were on a hiding to nothing following the Danny Boyle London Olympics opener but the bit I saw, what I've read and seen on the news it was pretty poor.

Thankfully the opening ceremonies are, for me, mostly a waste of energy. So, to the sport ....

Absolutely knackered just watching the magnificent Brownlee brothers in that swimming ,running and cycliing thing. Amazing stamina and they're not exactly muscle-bound.

Quite so in the runners case (Paula Radcliffe, Mo Farah etc) but with the swimming and cycling I'd have thought muscle mattered. I was obviously wrong. Anyway, magnificent gold and silver from the brothers. Brilliant show. :oyea:

Just watching them being interviewed on the BBC. I find them intriguing.

They're so down to earth it's unreal. The banter is just like watching me and elder brother (quite) a few years ago, apart from they're the best in the world and we weren't the best at anything in the Chorley district, let alone the world.

I find it absolutely amazing how these scrawny brothers from Yorkshire rule the Triathlon world. Incredible.
Hope is what keeps us going.

You correct. Down to earth sums them up. Very likeable lads.

They do so well because they just don't have any weaknesses in the three events unlike some of the others. First at the end of the swimming. A small group in the cycling that increased their lead even though they were being chased by a large pack and unbelievable runners, probably the best in the field.

Last year Alistair ran a 10k in a time of 28min 32secs which is pretty good time for anyone.

I don't think I could do 5k in that time never mind 10K.

To put it in perspective, when Mo Farah won the 10k Olympic gold he ran 27min 30sec. In the brutal 10k final, Mo would probably not have lapped Brownlee in 25 laps of the track. That is pretty good going for someone who is not a dedicated runner.

Welsh competitor Rhys Williams? has been suspended from all competition by the dope squad (or whatever the official title is.) Just caught a headline, no details...

Think I read somewhere Brownlee's time would have WON gold in the last Olympics.

Mrs GtE told me yesterday apparently Johnny Brownlee was running out of fluids on the bike so asked his brother for some of his. Alistair's answer? 'No'

Best of friends outside the race but when it's on, it's on. I like that. :D

Edit: I read wrong. Still a stunning time!

I think it was just something that the Team Doctor gave them in case they're Rhyl. :)

Clearly he wasn't listening when the Doctors told him which tablets he could and couldn't have. "Don't take this one, because this Swansea-legal".

The tester took one look at the test results and said "Here, you're Rhondda performance enhancers"
