The standard of commentary in Spain has left me shell-shocked. My favourite last night was the man screaming Ronaldinho's name for several seconds after he'd lost the ball. Other than that, there's been a healthy strand of racism towards the African teams, especially those playing against Spanish-speaking nations.

Drury: It'll be difficult to pick a man of the match today. Spain must be one of the best teams we've seen. Ivory Coast, Argentina and most of all the Czech's are the other teams that have impressed so far, but I wonder, even if they're not quite as good as the Czech team, might Spain be the best European team we've seen?

Quite liked Southgate near the end of today's game, talking about Trinidad and Tobago - 'their island will be very proud tonight'. Perhaps he thought the Tobagans had done well, but the Trinidadians let the side down a bit?

Dwight Yorke was felled by a football straight in the 'nads.

He's on floor rolling about with his right hand down his shorts checking out that everything is still where it should be when ITV says...No prizes or guessing where Dwight was injured.

D'you reckon!

David Pleat tonight, on about Henrik Larsson:

'He's ageless - about 34, 35.'

Spotted a Big Ron-esque Lawro gem earlier in the week..."he hit the ball too well". Which is why it cleared the third tier, Lawro.

ITV seemed to mention tonight that it would be hard to tell apart the Sweden players, as they were wearing the same colour shirts as the fans. :?

As England were huffing and puffing their way to a one-nil (at the time) victory, Southgate went off on some long ramble which concluded with him stating that winning by a small margin was better than winning by a big margin. That's right - one-nil is far better than five-nil everytime.

And another thing.

Alan Green - we all know he's a tool of the highest order. But here's more proof.
On 6-0-6, the following two quotes came out of his oversized gob within minutes of each other:-
- My role is simply to provide an objective viewpoint.
- I thought England played badly. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

Cock.

God, this winds me up. No it isn't, it's to let the listener know what's going on on the pitch. It's the objective viewpoint of players and managers that we want, not some prick from Ulster whose opinion is no more valid or relevant than that of the rest of us.

Cock!

ITV seem to have cornered the market in shit commentators but what is it with Motson and WW2?! He's OBSESSED!!! Never misses an opportunity to drag the subject up!

This may have already been pointed out (if so then I offer my apologies), but apparently Jon Champion's recent assertions that Jaidi was the first Bolton player to score in the World Cup Finals was not all that......

After tonight's match, Ian Wright when talking about the African teams seemed to think Saudi Arabia was in Africa.
