Can't count the number of times I've been jumped by gangs of chavs round here. Once had to have 16 stitches in my lip where one of the little bastards bottled me....while I was already on the floor, semi-conscious. I'm sure it must make him feel like the 'big man' to stab somebody already beaten by his mates....

I lived in Wigan for a while, but i lived in the town centre so it was pretty safe. But a few of my mates from college said the gang mentality was really bad. If they didnt recognise you or they did and you werent in the gang you'd had it. Two major things that happened was the chinese shop owner beaten to death with sticks bottles etc whilst trying to protect his shop. Last but not least the ethnic immagrant stoned to death in the street after he got lost. The later caught on cctv.

Not so much gangs as in 'gangster' type organised things. More hordes of pissed, pilled up chavs looking for an easy taget. I barely go two weeks without getting jumped for being an 'Indie c**t'....it's even worse when I'm with my girlfriend....I can just think what goes through their head 'good looking lass, maybe us lot kicking seven shades out of her boyfriend will convince her we're much better men than him' . Morons. Oh well I just console myself that in 5 years time I'll have a degree and they'll have an ASBO and 6 illegitimate kids. Realy soothes my injuries

I have to say this is all rather startling to an outsider who left the district 42 years ago. I cannot conceive of accepting a life when I get beaten up every fortnight. Is this hyperbole or the straight facts?

About time the law got a real grip on it all. It starts in the home, so parents aren't allowed to tan arses any more. It carries on in schools, so the cane was banned. Spreads onto the streets, so the law turns a blind eye and punishment is a joke. And all this in the millennium of technology and progress. Our once-proud England is shot to pieces because of do-gooders and gutless government.

Give paents and teachers back some measure of control.
Give the police authority to do their jobs.
Apply the law and put the brake on shyster lawyers and soft judges.
Ban all gangs.
Ban black windows in cars, let the bastds be seen.
Control the soft immigration policies and get the loafers and scroungers into gainful employment.
Yeah, wishful thinking at best.

This strikes me as a completely intolerable situation, although I'm not sure why you still walk around alone. I presume an "indie" (new word to me) is a dark-skinned person of Indian descent. If racially motivated attacks occur all the time surely the authorities have to step in and take some action. Where are you going to university?

And it's not just Bolton that it's confined too. I recently saw a lad in the centre of Edinburgh who closely matched HFC's description of himself getting a mouthful of homophobic bile from a pack of these ratboys. They clearly wanted to get a reaction from him so they had a thinly veiled excuse for starting a fight. Wisely he ignored them. I bet he gets it everywhere he goes though - I mean, anyone who is taller than 5'6" or doesn't wear branded trackies must be gay, right?

Indie Kids (or Moshers) vrs Chavs is no new thing. In the 60s you had Mods kicking the bells out of Rockers, in the seventies, Bowie fans would get leathered from Slade fans. In the fifties, rebellion was the norm with kids into rock'n'roll... it's nowt new.

I lived in Horwich, was a 6ft streak of piss with scruffy hair and battered trainers and I didn't get much bother.. the occassional bit of lip from a scally, but I gave it back... usually sorted it out. I also had the occassional scrap... but no more than your average young lad. I feel that people 'always getting' jumped is an exagerration myself. I live right next door to Moss Side these days, and I don't see any trouble at all.

Sometimes you get some cocky little upstart mouthing off because you won't go into the shop for him, but you tell 'em to piss off and they soon pipe down. Either that or take their money off 'em and buy summat for yourself... I've done that a few times.
