Re: the Photo thread
More inversion photographs from last week and from other friends of mine. On this occasion they have managed to capture two rare phenomena - a fog bow and a broken spectre:

An important distinction. In 1780 it scared the living daylights out of Johann 'Braun Lederhosen' Silberschlag which it would not have done if it was broken.Bruce Rioja wrote:Montreal Wanderer wrote:Great stuff, though it's a Brocken Spectre (from a mountain in Germany).clapton is god wrote:More inversion photographs from last week and from other friends of mine. Fascinating illusion. I've never seen one (or a fog bow) but now I know the conditions under which they occur I might start looking.clapton is god wrote:^ Correct - I missed a letter 'c'.

Commonly seen out of aircraft windows but in 40 years walking in the Lakes I've only ever seen two. Not easy to look for, Monty.

You just have to get between a lowish sun and a temperature inversion right? Then cast a giant shadow.clapton is god wrote:Commonly seen out of aircraft windows but in 40 years walking in the Lakes I've only ever seen two. Not easy to look for, Monty.

Re: the Photo thread
A couple of photo's from the most impressive temperature inversion I've ever seen. This was on a walk up Moel Famau near Mold, on Christmas eve 2006. I wish I'd had a better camera with me at the time, but never mind

Re: the Photo thread
Has anyone on here taken a DSLR into the Reebok and taken photos from their seat? I'm pretty sure taking photos from the stands isn't allowed, but I just wondered if anyone's had any experience of how "jobsworth" the stewards are in this respect.
I've read somewhere else that most grounds turn a blind eye to people using cameraphones, or small point and shoot cameras, but a big DSLR with a big(ish) lens might draw some attention.
I'm contemplating taking my DSLR to the next match, but don't want to get it confiscated, or for me to get frog marched out, or both.

The guy behind us brought his a few years ago & got no grief. The very worst they could do (in the digital age) is confiscate it and have you delete the pics you took. It IS, strictly, copyright within the grounds, but they aren't going to be up to saleable quality & really for 'personal use'.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: the Photo thread
No, they cannot make you delete any photo's. Not even the Police can do that. It requires a court order. But yes, they hold copyright on the stadium and whatever goes on in there so can chuck you out if they were so minded as an alternaitive. Having said that, I have a couple of floodlight images for sale (looking pretty generic) but taken with a compact G10 rather than a DSLR.bobo the clown wrote:The guy behind us brought his a few years ago & got no grief. Ok. Thanks for your comments. Looks like its worth risking it, but I need to be prepared for a difficult conversation with a steward.clapton is god wrote:No, they cannot make you delete any photo's. "Fck-off you preening jobsworth" should do the job.Always hopeful wrote:Ok. Thanks for your comments. Looks like its worth risking it, but I need to be prepared for a difficult conversation with a steward.
Less obvious in game itself, rather than the pre-match. Don't stand up, if you can help it and the later in the game the less likely to be collared AND the less it matters if you get oiked AND the seat's in my name so any legal action will befall me !!!

My enthusiasm is waning. I'm beginning to think its simply not worth the hassle. I'll stick to using my iPhone. You should get one. Football clubs can make it part of the terms and conditions of entry that you do not take photos in the ground, but it is not true to say that they own the copyright in photos taken in breach of these terms and conditions.
