too early for an ashes thread??

i'm staying up for a bit of this.
sadly, the worst thing about it is there are no English batsmen in that side who would truly relish the prospect of 2 solid days pitting their wits against the top bowling attack in the world. Atherton would have loved it, Boycott would have died happy right in the middle of such an occurance and there are probably a few others. I reckon Vaughn could have made a fist of it, but none of these lot seem to have the patience.
Flintoff has no apparent patience.
it could be the finest two days of English Test Cricket history, sadly it won't be. Still pride is there to play for and respect is there to be earnt.
After this test it's gone, regroup and take a deep look into each other. not just some of the players but the chaps in charge, they've made some proper cock ups that have been well documented.
i am proper bloody gutted at how this series has panned out. really, it's nearly ruined Christmas.

just woken up to find 251-3, Cook on 115. Now I hope I don't put this kiss of death on it but this could see them needing a bit less than 300 on the last day on a very benign pitch.
[edit] cook out flicking at one going outside off stump and then Hoggard out first ball. 261-5:roll:
why put a nightwatchman in??? Here Ossies have an easy wicket!

Damned if I know, Commie. I was flabergasted when he walked out - against a fired up McGrath with an almost-new ball he was always going to struggle. A strange decision as far as I'm concerned.communistworkethic wrote:

A nicely crafted century from Cook and apart from the last couple of overs a pretty good performance from England. The run rate was quite good too considering the situation. From here on in though, given that Flintoff and Jones have not been getting runs, it could be all over rather quickly. I hope not.
Shame about Giles - I trust his wife is improving.
Again, i can't see it.
But if ever there was a time for a man to step up to the plate and become a hero, it's tonight. Pulling off victory tonight would see both KP and Flintoff go down as all time England greats. It's good in a way because neither has anything to lose. Most people gave up hope a long time ago, as early as the first day in Brisbane.
I think we'll give it a go. But be all out for tea.

Those two wickets before the close of play were a psychological blow, if England went to stumps at 261-3, it would have been game on. As much as I'd like to see us win, it'll be over pretty soon.

Very disappointed to have lost it, but it was expected.
Now come on England and get some pride back - win at least one match.
